Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr.Sade Beaulieu.
Hi Dr. Sade, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve felt drawn to helping others from a very young age, even before I had the language to describe what that would look like professionally. While I didn’t originally set out to become a counselor, my early academic path was rooted in Nursing, and the transition into counseling felt both organic and deeply aligned with who I am. Along the way, mentors and professors played a pivotal role in shaping my clinical skills, ethical foundation, and passion for this work.
Counseling is a field that truly feels as though it chose me. At the core of my work is helping clients identify their strengths and move toward improved mental and emotional wellness. My areas of focus include ethical practice, counselor development, and holistic approaches to mental health. Through my clinical and professional experiences, I’ve had the opportunity to engage thoughtfully with issues related to identity, professional growth, and mental health across the lifespan.
What continues to inspire me most about this profession is that it never stops evolving. Whether through ongoing learning, professional collaboration, or one-on-one therapeutic work, I am constantly reminded of the impact that thoughtful, ethical, and compassionate mental health care can have on individuals and communities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has not been easy, but every challenge has shaped the clinician and leader I am today. Early in my career, I worked within various organizations where I often felt underutilized and disconnected from my full potential. Alongside professional criticism and rejection, I also faced financial setbacks that tested my resilience and forced me to confront the reality that passion alone is not enough to sustain a career in mental health.
Sitting at tables with seasoned professionals, colleagues, and even friends taught me powerful lessons about alignment, boundaries, and self-worth. While I initially believed we shared the same vision, I came to understand that not everyone was invested in my growth; some were simply positioned to benefit from my labor. Rather than allowing those experiences to diminish me, they clarified what I was no longer willing to accept.
That clarity became my catalyst. I recognized that my future was in my own hands and that creating financial and professional stability required courage, intention, and self-trust. I chose to invest in myself, refine my skills, and build something that reflected my values. In doing so, I learned to set firm non-negotiables around my time, my worth, and the impact I wanted to make.
These experiences reinforced my belief that empowerment includes financial sustainability, ethical practice, and personal fulfillment. This journey continues to evolve, and I embrace it fully, confident, grounded, and committed to growth. I now understand that success isn’t defined by how you begin, but by how boldly you claim your path and move forward with purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the founder of Overcome Counseling, a practice dedicated to providing culturally responsive therapy to adolescents and adults. We offer accessible, telehealth-based services to help clients reach their goals from the comfort of their homes. Our approach is integrative and grounded in evidence-based practices, allowing us to tailor treatment to each individual’s unique needs. Together, we work to establish realistic, achievable goals that reflect the changes clients want to see in their lives.
What sets Overcome Counseling apart is our collaborative and healing-centered approach. We prioritize accessibility for marginalized populations and actively work to challenge the stigma that still surrounds mental health and counseling. In addition to individual therapy, we also provide LPC supervision and consultation services, which allow us to support both clients and fellow professionals in meaningful ways.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next five to ten years, I see the mental health industry continuing to move toward more accessible, integrative, and client-centered care. Telehealth will remain a core component of treatment, while holistic and complementary modalities will become more widely accepted as part of comprehensive mental health care. There is a growing recognition that healing is not one-size-fits-all and that mental, emotional, and physiological wellness are deeply interconnected.
From a practice perspective, I see my work evolving alongside these shifts. I envision Overcome Counseling growing into a group practice that supports the development of associate licensed counselors through practicum and internship opportunities. Investing in clinician training and mentorship is essential to the future of the profession, and I believe ethical supervision and support will play a major role in preventing burnout and strengthening the field overall.
I also anticipate expanding services to include integrative modalities such as sound therapy, light therapy, salt therapy, and float therapy. These approaches align with a broader industry shift toward holistic care and nervous system regulation, offering clients additional pathways to healing alongside traditional talk therapy.
Ultimately, I see the industry moving toward a model that prioritizes accessibility, sustainability for clinicians, and innovative approaches to wellness, and I’m excited to be part of shaping that future.
