Today we’d like to introduce you to Saher Dosani.
Hi Saher, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve always had an eye for fashion, hair, and makeup. The first ever GRWM I would passionately watch would have had to be my mother’s. I loved seeing her glam up for parties and events, so much so that it inspired me to get into all her drawers and play dress up on my little sisters. My father always had an entrepreneurial spirit by consistently thinking outside of the box and staying ambitious. This, combined with his work ethic and patience, was something that was always instilled within me. I’ve always known I’ve wanted to be an entrepreneur of some sort… However, believing in myself was something that I struggled with deeply. Because of this disbelief, I decided to instead become a social worker but to my surprise, I learned so many amazing lessons along the way. What I was advocating for on a daily basis amongst the youth I was working with, unbeknownst to me, played a huge role in who I was becoming. Social work and makeup artistry may seem unrelated on the surface, but they both share common goals of empowerment, self-expression, creativity, and community engagement, making them complementary in many ways. Which finally led me to picking up my makeup brushes on the weekends and believing in myself.
With the support of my family here in Houston, I’ve been blessed to be able to take it up a notch and pursue my dreams full-time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! This is such a common misconception when branching out in any creative field. Just because it may look good on the surface doesn’t mean there aren’t things you are dealing with behind the scenes. The fierce competition, finding steady work, and dealing with the perception that makeup artistry isn’t a serious career path are all some of the stigmas and struggles that could potentially hinder your growth if you aren’t mentally prepared.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer hair and makeup services for bridal and party makeup. I am most known for my soft, glam makeup looks with loose curls. I am most proud of helping my clients feel their absolute best once they walk out of my doors and into their events. Knowing I’ve not only helped them look their best but also feel their best is what being in this industry is all about for me! I think what sets me apart from others is the connection I have with everyone while working with them. The women I am blessed to work with are of the utmost importance to me, and that will never change.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family in Houston has helped me tremendously by encouraging me to start my makeup artistry business. My sister-in-law Aisha actually helped me set up my first-ever beauty kit with everything I needed and even offered to model for me in order to get my Instagram up and started. Those little moments meant everything to me.
