Today, we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Gonzalez.
Hi Sarah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved decorating and designing. My childhood bedrooms were always painted different colors, in a monochromatic theme. I would help family members pick out furniture or decor without even realizing I was actually pretty good at putting decor together. I entered the design industry by loading tile boxes for customers, eager to be part of the field. I started school in 2020 for my Fine Arts degree at a community college, working full time and going to school full time. I wanted to become successful quickly. I have a very eager personality. I went through many ups and downs during those years. I had many people doubt me, “friends,” coworkers, and bosses, but I never truly doubted myself. I worked at places where I could get as much knowledge and experience as possible to get me ready to be on my own as an Interior Designer. I worked at tile and flooring stores for a while, then worked for a few small businesses that sold flooring, lighting, plumbing, etc. Throughout all of those jobs, I was able to network with many contractors, builders, and other designers, who soon became my mentors, and I am so incredibly grateful to them. I decided to make the bold move of building my own company and it has flourished over time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has been fairly smooth. In the beginning deciding to become an entrepreneur is extremely scary. There’s a lot of “what ifs” and some doubts, but ultimately, I read a lot of books and research online and within myself, that steered me in the right direction. I also had and have many mentors and friends that own businesses that would give advice when needed. Luckily, I worked for companies that taught me what to do and what not to do in business and how to handle or treat clients. And I soaked it all in over the years.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My expertise lies in revamping or crafting interiors, dedicated to reshaping spaces and choosing textiles to customize your home. Although I lean towards a contemporary style with clean lines, I tailor my approach to match my clients’ preferences, uncovering styles they might not have considered. I take pride in breaking free from constraints to embrace creative freedom. My main goal is to educate my clients and help people understand that hiring a designer is essential when remodeling or building a home. I love to educate people and help them bring their design dreams to life.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
When it comes to what’s helped me succeed in this field, I’d say it’s my ability to think outside the box. I’m all about finding those unexpected solutions that really make a space feel special. Whether it’s mixing patterns in a way that shouldn’t work but totally does or finding a clever way to maximize space in a tiny apartment, I’m always up for a creative challenge. It’s like my brain’s wired to see possibilities where others might not, and that’s what makes designing so much fun for me!
