Hi Sava, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path to Sava Events was shaped by every side of the event industry. I went to Texas A&M and majored in Parks, Recreation and Tourism with an emphasis in event management, and straight out of college I went to work for a wedding planning firm here in Houston. I loved it and learned so much about the craft of planning.
From there, I became the assistant catering director at Lakeside Country Club and completely fell in love with the food and beverage and venue side of events. Being part of such a large team showed me how many moving pieces come together on event day. After that, I joined an amazing floral design company as their brand director, where I got to see up close everything it takes to make an event look beautiful and effortless from behind the scenes.
Through all of it, I knew planning was my true love and that I wanted to return to it, but in a smaller, more intimate, more hands-on way: focusing on full-service design-driven events and taking on a limited number of weddings and celebrations each year so I could dedicate all the time each one deserves.
I launched Sava Events in March of 2024, and it has been a dream come true. I was honored and honestly beside myself with the outpouring of support and the clients who found me and connected to my work. Each one feels like a soul mate in a way, and I’ve been able to create some truly special moments because of the people I’ve gotten to work for and with.
Because I’ve spent time on the planning side, the venue side, and the floral side, I have a profound respect for all of the vendor partners who come together to showcase their creativity and service. I wanted my company to reflect what a privilege it is to employ these creatives and small business owners and to work alongside them as true creative partners.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes and no. That’s part of the beauty and chaos of events: there are always challenges, mishaps, hiccups, and the occasional disaster. Part of the fun is finding creative solutions, pivoting, and often landing on something even better than the original plan.
My career has been the same way. Anything worth doing has challenges, especially when you work in high-pressure situations with really high expectations, on large teams, with hundreds of moving parts. What I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older and carved my own path is to trust yourself, trust your team, and trust your clients.
When you do that well, most struggles are taken care of before they ever become problems. It looks like saying no to a client who is not the right fit. It looks like listening to a venue director who knows the challenges of a space better than anyone. It looks like hearing your vendor partners out when they tell you how something could be better or smoother. And it looks like trusting your own instincts and standing firm when it matters.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Sava Events is a boutique wedding and event planning company specializing in full-service planning and design. I would say I’m known for my sentimentality, my obsession with detail, and my emotional investment in every event I plan. Design is my specialty, and I take a lot of pride in each event reflecting the client in a unique way, which means no two of my events ever look or feel exactly the same.
What I’m most proud of is helping to orchestrate moments that transform people and become core memories. The way we light a room, the color of the linens, the flowers, the music: it all comes together to create something more than the sum of its parts. It infuses a little magic into everyday life.
I’m also incredibly proud of the small business owners and creatives I partner with. I’m able to showcase their talent while doing right by the client, taking a vision that may have been buried in the client’s head and delivering something a hundred times better than they imagined.
The wedding and event industry is one of the few that is made up almost entirely of small businesses, most of them women-owned. Planning an event is often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to employ an entire team of small businesses and creatives, and I love that for my clients. I love playing matchmaker and then seeing, years down the line, that their photographer has done their family portraits, or that their florist creates their Valentine’s Day arrangement every year, or that their stationer designs their Christmas cards. Those lasting relationships are one of my favorite things to witness.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The short answer is that I love the food and hate the traffic. But beyond that, I think Houston is such an entrepreneurial city. I’m so inspired by the creativity here, the get-up-and-go, the willingness to say yes to everything and figure out how to make something happen. I love that about this city.
