Life & Work with Scott Teven of Spring Branch West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Teven

Hi Scott, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
About 30 years ago I began to photograph the Houston skyline as a personal project. The cityscape fascinated me when the changing weather and light coincided to create spectacular vistas. I have continued to explore Houston with my camera, capturing unique scenic views of the city and it’s architectural monuments. Over time I have produced and compiled a diverse collection of Houston photography that features distinctive photographs of the city from unique viewpoints. I have also photographed the State of Texas extensively. My collection of Texas photography features Landscapes, Landmarks, Texas culture and other iconic images of the Lone Star State.

My customers purchase my photography to display as framed art in their corporate offices and for personal display in their homes. By displaying regional photography companies and organizations can emphasize their regional brand and identify with local customers. Stock photos can be licensed for marketing and editorial use.

I offer my artwork to art consultants and interior designers who seek custom art for corporate, healthcare and hospitality clients. Select clients include Marriott International, Cisco Systems, Citigroup, Enterprise Products Partners, Ferrostaal, Deloitte University, Baylor All Saints Medical Hospital and the US Court of Appeals.

Recently I opened an art gallery to show my artwork in my Spring Branch home (near Memorial City and Citycentre). I am preparing an open exhibit for later this year but the gallery can be visited now by appointment.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most artists, including myself, find it difficult to get their work seen. Early on in my journey I built a website which was discovered by many who were interested in my work. Discovery on search continued to decline over the years due to the changing algorithms of search engines. I use social media with some success but lately I find myself returning to old fashioned ways of finding customers like networking and just picking up the phone!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
During my career I have also worked as a graphic designer. Along the way I picked up many skills including expertise in graphics software – Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom in particular. I use Lightroom to manage my extensive photo collection and Photoshop to edit and enhance my photographs. Lately I have been adapting my photographs in creative ways such as enhancing color and producing unique abstract compositions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I guess I am as lucky as the next guy when it comes to success in business. Today, artists need to be proactive and find novel ways to express themselves.
