Today we’d like to introduce you to Sola Allyson
Sola, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is ṢỌLÁ ALLYSON. I was born in the 70s in Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa. I was introduced to music in the church when I was very young as a chorister.. I began professional back-up singing around the age of 13.
I got a breakthrough into the mainstream music industry in Nigeria when I was contracted for the soundtrack of a film in 2003 and the soundtrack became popular.. Before then, I was working as a professional backup singer and I had worked with various artistes and did signature tunes.
I studied Music Technology at The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria and I graduated with Upper Credit, major in Voice and minor in Piano.
I have 10 Albums, singles and EPs released and my works have sold over 120 million in the days before social media and digital music marketing and even now the streams are there to see.
My music is inspirational, spiritual, transformational. I sing predominantly in Yorùbá, my native language. Those who understand the language testify to the change and awakening that happens with them through my music and hose who do not understand are communicated to in a language that the physical ears might be deaf to but understood by the soul.
I am a permanent residence of the United States from January 2023 ans I live in Houston Texas. I am employed by Harvest Point Ministries for their Yoruba Christian Fellowship.
My music preaches love, hope, encouragement and courage.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course, rhe way up is not a smooth road! But I am grateful for the courage and consistency along the way…
The challenge of being misunderstood because I was paving a way which none had paved before. Singing in Yorùbá unapologetically, being totally modest and truth based and not allowing to be boxed into any religious mindse, staying through even without a record label or system backing me, refusing to be defined erroneously by overzealous but “powerful” people, lack of true accountability on the part of marketers and distributors thereby seeing your works selling like hot cake but almost going broke because of little amounts of money being accrued to you, I can go on and on.
But with the faith and consistency that I was made to do this, today, I am one of the most popular Singers in South Western Nigeria, Africa.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I believe I have answered this previously…
I am a Singer.
I am known for singing in Yorùbá, my local language, my consistency, my way of getting under the skins of people with my voice to each their hearts for hope, comfort and encouragement.
I am most proud of and GRATEFUL for my concistnsch over the years despite major challenges in my personal life and work, being able to stand through and where I am today even as I work towards and seek for more.
What sets me apart from others is my voice texture and delivery/usage, my consistency with my language of delivery, my appearance, my lifestyle and my being authentic from beginning till now…
What’s next?
My plans for the future is to continue to be a help and blessing to my environment.. As I am able to raise platforms in Nigeria to help those who identify with my music, I want to be able to raise platforms here in Houston and other parts of The United States and the rest of the globe for those who identify with my music and introduce others to me because I have great gems to offer with my songs and words.
I want to be known as a Yoruba Woman from Africa who believes there is no mistake in whom she is made to be, who lives in love and truth that is globally consistent and universally stable, who oozes her essence to light up the hearts and paths of others into being their authentic self in love and truth, as simple as possible, thereby spreading love and truth to mankind the more as far as my voice and works can reach.
