Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Heard.
Hi Stephanie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got started in the beauty industry because I fell in love with makeup, yes makeup lol. That’s what I initially went to cosmetology school for and ended up loving all things beauty, especially hair. I didn’t get licensed until I was a 30 yr old single parent of two children. What great timing I have! (That was sarcasm in case you didn’t catch it) I worked at a consulting company where I was unfulfilled and wanted to have a career that I didn’t want to quit every day. So I stepped out on faith, quit my job, and haven’t looked back.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road was most definitely rocky, but that’s what happens when you’re in uncharted territory. Everything is new and you are usually super unsure about your choices. Building clientele is not easy, showing up when you are barely making money is not easy. But you do it anyway because you love it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a hairstylist and I dabble in makeup as well. Bombshell Studios HTX specializes in natural hair care and extensions. We offer everything from silk presses to braids, to weaves and wigs and everything In between. I’m most proud of how The business was formed and how we care for our clients, I think this industry has lost some of its touch for caring for its clients and I take pride in the fact that we still do.
How do you think about happiness?
My family and my career make me happy. I have an awesome work-life balance and those are the two things I struggled with when I had a traditional 9-5. This is cliche but it’s true, when you’re doing something you love it truly doesn’t feel like work. And family, well, my family has been my support system through this entire journey and they have never wavered. That’s some thing to be happy about, for sure.
