Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Lang.
Hi Steven, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I began my photography journey near the end of 2015 when I started following other photographers on Instagram. I found out that my favorite photographers were using the Fuji camera system, and from there, I decided to buy the Fuji XT1. Thanks to Fuji cameras making photography really fun, I traveled the world photographing unique locales and off-the-beaten-path locations. I would eventually find success selling my prints both online and at local craft shows.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The world has gone through some changes since I started selling my art. I was having greater success during the pandemic when people were cooped up inside more and less lately due to higher inflation and the general rising cost of living. So, it’s really up and down. I’m trying to navigate the current dip by offering additional sales and promoting my shop more online.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a landscape photographer who’s been lucky enough to travel to 47 countries. I’m known for taking pictures of unique landscapes from all over the world and giving them a sense of magical realism in my edits. Sometimes that means editing them to invoke feelings of nostalgia, other times to invoke a dreamy, ethereal feeling in the viewer. Either way, I aim to invoke some positive emotion in my artwork.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve pushed myself so hard to take unique photos and found a way to have some success in selling them. My favorite places to photograph so far have been Patagonia in Argentina, Banff in Canada, and all over Costa Rica.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Finding my own unique style that sets me apart from others. I want people to see my art and think, “That’s a Steven Lang” piece just by the composition and edit. Also, not everyone will like my style, and that’s fine, too; art is very subjective. I photograph for myself, and my hope is that my photography will speak to others.
Pricing:
- My usual print sizes range from 8×10 to 30×45. My 8x10s go for roughly $30, and standard 16×24 is roughly $100. Realistically, I can print a photo in any size and material upon request.
