Life & Work with Steven Teel of Downtown Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Teel.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Houston and come from a big family—12+ siblings, so life’s always been full and loud in the best way. I got married in April 2024, which has been another incredible chapter.

I actually started in sales after college, which taught me a lot about communication and people skills. But I eventually realized I wanted to put my finance degree to work in a more technical way. That led me to transition into corporate finance—and today, I work in Project Finance at NextDecade as a Treasury Associate Analyst.

My role involves working in financial models, supporting capital raises, and preparing detailed analysis for potential lenders and investors. I help create pitch decks, work on forecasting and cash flow projections, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure our large-scale LNG projects are financially sound and well-positioned.

On the side, I started posting content just for fun—sharing daily routines with a mix of humor and motivation. It clicked with people. Now, I’ve grown to over 260K followers on TikTok and 32K on Instagram. My long-term goal is to own my own business and use my platform to inspire others—especially young professionals—that it’s possible to build both a strong career and a creative life you love.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting in sales was a challenge—I learned a lot, but knew it wasn’t my long-term fit. Pivoting into finance took time, patience, and a lot of behind-the-scenes effort. On the content side, growing while juggling a full-time job hasn’t been easy either. But staying consistent and disciplined has made it all worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work in Project Finance at NextDecade, supporting capital raises and financial modeling for LNG projects. Outside of that, I create lifestyle content that’s funny, real, and a little motivational. I’m proud to show that you can thrive in both a corporate career and a creative space—and inspire others to do the same.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Houston is the diversity of people, food, and opportunities. There’s always something happening, and the city’s energy is unmatched. What I like least? The traffic. And the humidity definitely tests my patience.
