Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Mack.
Sydney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in 1998 and grew up in Sugar Land, TX. I went to Travis High School and graduated in 2016. I have played sports since the age of 4, and I played volleyball and ran track. Soccer is the only sport that stuck, and I played from when I was 4 y/o through college. I went to St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX, and got a B.A. in Mathematics with a computer science minor. Junior year summer, I had an internship in web programming, and when I graduated from college in 2020, I landed a job in the oil & gas industry in a rotational program.
During this program, I was able to save up enough to buy a car and house at the ages of 22 & 23, respectively. Not too long after, I adopted a Pitbull, Mia, and she was 7 months old.
I am very much an introvert, so one of my goals for 2023 was to connect with more people and travel. Since I work from home, I had to go out of my way to intentionally connect with people in person. I went on a pre-planned group trip with Feed the Soul Productions to Cartagena, Colombia, with about 17 others, and it set the tone for the rest of my year. I was able to take a total of 20 trips in 2023 including 6 international trips, many of them with the same group of people.
I recently became interested in diversifying & expanding my streams of income, so I have started content creation and got my real estate license. My personal social media pages focuses on fitness & travel, and I also have joint pages with my girlfriend on TikTok & Instagram that focus on relationship and travel content. I plan to focus on residential homes and apartments in the Houston area, so I’m your girl if you need to buy, sell, lease, or rent apartments or houses!
I want to thank my mom and girlfriend for helping me come out of my shell and pushing me out of my comfort zone to be more social / extroverted. I want to thank my brother for being my best friend and showing me that you can make a friend any and everywhere that you go. I want to thank my dad for motivating and providing for me for my entire life. All of these people got me where I am today, and I can’t say thank you enough!!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My freshman year of college, I tore my ACL in off-season playing soccer. So I had to do rehab and recovery for about 8 months. My main reason for playing soccer throughout college was to pay for my education, so after I was injured, it was very hard to stay motivated to keep going. I am so glad that I stuck with it because I have made lifelong friends on my soccer team and finished school with a great degree!
In my career, one thing that I had always struggled with is knowing what my “dream job” is. There was never really anything that jumped out to me as a passion. A couple months before I turned 25, I was having a quarter-life crisis about what I wanted to do because my corporate job wasn’t fulfilling what I wanted out of life on its own. I was very nervous and intimidated to be a content creator, and I was concerned with people judging me or not being good enough. Even though I still get nervous about certain aspects of being a content creator, I enjoy what I do and it gives me a space to unleash my creative side that I didn’t know was there.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
This year, I have started pursuing careers in addition to having a 9-5. For my corporate job, I am a technical product manager for an oil and gas company. My responsibilities are to drive the development and lifecycle of a tech product, from defining requirements to aligning with business goals. I landed on the supplier quality team, so any applications that I manage pertain to that domain.
Content creation is another career path that I have pursued. My content focuses mainly on health and fitness on my personal page with a dash of traveling. My girlfriend and I also have a relationship page where we showcase our love and common relationship experiences. I would say that fitness and travel are what I am most known for, but the relationship page is quickly growing on TikTok.
Lastly, I practice real estate in the greater Houston-area under Darvita Mack Realty Group. It is a family business, so my aunt is my broker and I work alongside my cousin. My aunt has been in the industry for over 40 years and my cousin and I bring a fresh perspective for first time homebuyers or tenants. Being a young homeowner myself, I know how stressful the process can be and would love to help you through the process!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I would say happiness matters most to me. I have learned in the past year that it is important to prioritize long-term happiness over temporary or short-term happiness. This includes career, romantic relationships, friendships, and health. You always want to make sure that you are thinking about your future self because what you do now can have a huge impact on your future. Surround yourself with people that you want to take with you and build out the life that you envision yourself having.
