Life & Work with Tania Ortiz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tania Ortiz.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Photography has always been a love of mine. I still remember buying tons of disposable cameras from a very young age and using them at any opportunity I could. It was just a pass time, but what really opened the door to my photography journey was the birth of my daughter. I’d like to believe she inspired all of this. I found myself taking photographs of her all the time. Not just a quick snap, I mean full-on photoshoots. I didn’t want to miss any milestone in her life. Which is also where the name behind “ForEVERLY Photo” stemmed from. Shortly after her first birthday, we found ourselves in a dark place. I went through a very traumatic experience, and I was lost. I needed to find myself again, and photography gave me that. It served as my escape from all the bad things going on and allowed me to focus on something that I always loved doing. One of the best decisions I have made is to pick the camera back up… I started my photography journey back in May 2020. At the time, COVID was at an all-time rise, so I didn’t expect my small hustle to take off. All I was really trying to achieve was a hobby just to regain my sense of independence. I started off photographing my friends and family, and that’s really how I got my name out there. Before I knew it, I was getting flooded with emails, messages, and texts asking for sessions. Despite getting so much positive feedback, I was still hesitant about whether I could actually turn this into a career. I began doing my research on camera options, scouting locations, editing techniques, and taking online courses from experienced photographers to become more knowledgeable in the field.

In these last couple of years, I have learned so much, but I find that there is still so much more room to educate myself in order to elevate my business. I want to ensure my clients that they are in the best of hands, and I plan to always make it an enjoyable and smooth experience for them. That is the mark I want to leave when you end your session with me. I want my clients to have the best time, most importantly- feel confident within themselves!

Another gratifying factor to take back from all this is all the great people I have gotten to work with and have even developed lifelong friendships with! All my thanks go to everyone who has supported me in any way. I’m thrilled to see where Foreverly Photo will be in the next years!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been far from smooth I would say. Like in any business, there will be hiccups, but it’s all part of what comes with this. In the beginning, I found myself constantly comparing my work to other great photographers, but what I kept in mind is that what sets you apart is also what makes your work unique. Photography doesn’t have rules or has to look one way. It’s an art.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I always remind my clients that the session is theirs so make it as such. Have fun with it! Embrace every smile and every angle. My goal is to capture the organic moments because after you look back at those photos, I want the image to take you back and feel that moment.
