Life & Work with Taylor Marron of Montrose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Marron.

Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started behind a camera in high school, where I first discovered how much I loved capturing people and moments. That creative spark eventually led me to the University of Houston, where I began shaping my marketing foundation and learning how strategy and storytelling work together.

In my early twenties, I began freelancing and creating commercials for local businesses. Internships with ESPN and Walt Disney World deepened my understanding of branding and showed me how powerful it can be when a story is told with intention. Around that same time, I launched my first photography business with a simple goal: create a side business for an additional income. With experience, that goal evolved into something purposeful. I realized my work felt most meaningful when it helped others share their passion and success.

Today, I bring that same purpose into my role as the Digital Media Specialist for the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, where I help amplify literacy-focused stories of impact that strengthen our community. That commitment to meaningful storytelling also inspired me to close Screens and Scenes and create Be Someone Studios, named in honor of Houston’s iconic landmark and rooted in the belief that everyone has a story worth elevating.

My mission now is to help people “Be Someone” through their craft by giving their stories the clarity, creativity, and visibility they deserve.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’m grateful for every challenge that has come my way because each one has shaped me into a stronger creative leader. Growth rarely happens without challenges, and I’ve learned to appreciate the obstacles that come my way. Each one pushes me to stretch creatively, adapt quickly, and take note of how to navigate similar situations in the future.

Early on, my focus was simply “making money,” and that mindset wasn’t aligned with who I am. Because I wasn’t marketing my business with genuine intention, I didn’t see the results I hoped for. Everything shifted when I asked myself a different question: How can my storytelling truly help others? That mindset change transformed the way I connected with people. Once I became honest about my purpose, helping others grow their businesses through meaningful visuals, the right clients started finding me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The last few months have been a really exciting stretch for my work. I specialize in editing and video production, and recently I’ve had the chance to work on some projects I’m genuinely proud of. At the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, our team won a Telly Award for the Celebration of Reading broadcast, where I contributed as an associate producer and photojournalist.

Right after that, I created a cinematic tribute reel honoring Tom Selleck for the Foundation’s Power of Literacy Luncheon, blending archival footage into a really emotional moment for the event.

And most recently, through Be Someone Studios, I produced content for James Beard Award winner Alba Huerta, the owner of Houston’s iconic Julep Bar. Collaborating with someone so respected in her craft was a great reminder of why I love storytelling through visuals.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I always get torn between Houston’s native hospitality and our insanely diverse food scene. As a foodie who loves to travel, I’m constantly reminded that Houston has some of the best restaurants anywhere. But what really makes the city special is how people look out for one another. That mix of great food and genuine community is hard to beat.

If I had to pick something I like least, it would definitely be the 610 stretch by the Galleria and the entrance onto 45 from I‑10. I know that’s incredibly specific, but as a Houston native, those two spots never fail to deliver mind‑boggling traffic. And yes, ironically, one of them sits right under the “Be Someone” bridge my company is named after. I love the landmark, but the traffic underneath it will test the patience of even the best drivers, and I stand by that.
