Today we’d like to introduce you to Temilade Omideyi.
Hi Temilade, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I would like to say our story is still developing… haha and it is not just my story but also my friend’s as we run our business together. But I would like to say my journey with styling brides is still very short. I have always loved looking great. Always loved putting things together especially outfits. I remember I used to put out my outfit for the next day on my chair in uni. I don’t have a background in fashion neither does my partner. My background is in Biochemistry and Nursing while hers (Adesewa) is in computer sciences.
Anyways, as soon as we finished uni and I had friends getting married I just sort of enjoyed helping people figure out what they were going to wear. We always sort of did that as friends. When I moved to the United states I realized I wanted to do something I enjoyed part time. I started taking online classes in styling and reading more about body types and practicing my sketches. My partner, Adesewa was already helping out her cousin who lived in the states who happens to be an event planner figure out outfits for her brides. So my friend (Adesewa) and I decided to team up and that’s how we have The PerfectBride Styling.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would like to say we have had good times and not so great times but we count it all as a learning process. Bridal styling is not as popular as it is in Nigeria so that is one of the problems we face but we have no problem educating brides about our services. Also we’ve had people look down on the services. I have had someone tell me ” is it not just to put clothes together”. Some people believe the services should be extremely cheap because they think they can do what we do. Afterall they also ” dress well”. Also it can be tough dealing with various vendors and sometimes disappointments but all in all I count it all joy. It’s part of the process I guess.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a nurse so I am saving the world every day lol. Known as Temilade of The PerfectBride styling, I would say I am mostly proud of working hard in getting my second bachelor’s degree. I believe what sets me apart is that I am always willing to try. I also pride myself in being a good listener and it shows in my business but I am not perfect but I would always do things over and over again till I get it right. It’s why my brides love me.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
