Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Badd.
Hi Tony, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My father, who is a retired UPS player was also a full-time musician along with my Uncle. My father played bass and my uncle on drums. Ever since I was young it was just part of my life so by the time I was 15-16 I was already learning chords and joining a band.
I started with a metal group called Metavenge with my best friend Anthony and we performed throughout Houston as well as working outside the city.
We made an album in L.A. with Alice cooper’s touring guitarist at the time, Keri Kelli.
We opened for groups such as Don Dokken, Smile Empty Soul, George Lynch, Saliva, L.A. Guns, Theory of a Deadman, Drowning Pool, Ronnie Munroe of Metal Church, and Adler’s Appetite of Guns n’ Roses. Also performing at festivals such as Crüe Fest 2 alongside Motley Crüe, and Rock The Bayou music festival.
Over the years, I joined several cover bands, and it has been career since. I now play with a full-time band called Rapture as well as doing original music under the name Tony Badd.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I believe like most people I ran into some emotional obstacles that I had to confront. I lost my best friend/brother Anthony Cruz Jr. on September 27, 2017. Out of pure respect, I choose not to go into detail, but his passing reshaped and changed my life. I’d say there are still consistent struggles that I go through when it comes to persevering or being resilient but have learned balance from hardships.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am Tony Badd and I perform music full-time as a living. I’m not necessarily sure if I’m known for anything, but I do sing and play guitar which I enjoy doing. There are many things I’m proud of including just having my beautiful daughter Adalynn. Recently, I am proud that the Houston Rockets have reached out to me several times to perform the National Anthem and I have been asked to perform for the FIFA Fan Festival that is coming up June 11th. I’m not truly sure what sets me apart but I’m grateful to those that have supported or believed in me.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’m not necessarily sure if I believe that I had luck or not. It was more or less you get what you put out and if I did nothing, I would get nothing. I believe I worked hard to get to where I’m at, considering where I started and what I endured.
Sometimes in this business, it is about who you know and it is about good luck, but sometimes it’s just determination and lots of hard work because I don’t know how to do anything else, so I had to make it work. This is what I’m supposed to be doing.
