Today we’d like to introduce you to Trae Perry
Trae, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story is pretty interesting; I’ve been involved in the arts since childhood. Began experimenting with drawing and painting, which later on led to me discovering digital art, and ultimately deciding to pursue graphic design. Around the same time, I’m also playing instruments throughout elementary and middle school, which then led me to pursue rapping, due to my love for music. Throughout my 30 years of living, God has blessed me to create and collaborate with artists and entrepreneurs from around the world; and I’m nothing short of grateful for it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t been the smoothest, especially with juggling both music and art. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if I prefer music or art, I’d be up at least $100,000 minimum. I’ve always believed music and art go hand in hand with each other, so I’ve never been able to choose just one. However since the pandemic in 2020, my design expertise has been inquired more than the music. So unfortunately I’ve spent a little more time on designing graphics, then recording music. However today, with my current schedule, I’ve been able to dedicate more time to writing and recording music, and finding the balance to handle both.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a recording artist, graphic designer and entrepreneur from Houston, Texas, I’ve been making music and creating graphics for 15 years. I’m known for my work by many individuals who find themselves in the Christian Hip Hop space, as well as the entrepreneurial world and baptist church world. I am most proud of my consistence throughout my career, the fact that I’m still relevant after seeing so many of my peers who I’ve started with, fizzle out overtime. What sets me apart from the rest is my point of view and how my creative brain works. I thank God for the mindset He gave me since my adolescent years.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is performing at my church for the first time and seeing the reactions on people faces. That was a PRICELESS moment for me. The feedback I got after the fact was overwhelming.
