Life & Work with Zavey of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zavey.

Hi Zavey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Zavey, a Houston-based rapper, recording artist, songwriter, and music creator. I’m building my career through hip-hop, creative expression, and a commitment to developing my own sound. My journey is rooted in ambition, independence, and the drive to make music that reflects who I am. I started writing poems at age 10 and that translated into actual songwriting. At age 13 I started rapping and released several albums and mixtapes from 2007 to now. With the help of my producers Stunt N Dozier, Bobby Beige & many more I created my sound and gained fans from different parts of the world
I write rap, freestyle, create songs, and develop concepts that connect lyrics, sound, and visuals. My music focuses on ambition, lifestyle, real experiences, pressure, growth, and the hustle it takes to level up. My sound comes from my personal perspective and from being part of Houston’s influential hip-hop culture.
My Creative Process
I approach music as more than recording vocals. I care about the complete creative process, from writing and delivery to production, arrangement, cover art, visual concepts, and release planning. I want each record to feel intentional and every visual to match the energy of the music.
I continue developing my skills in production, composition, MIDI, synthesizers, and audio engineering. I love to turn ideas into records and keep refining my sound.
My Vision
I’m focused on growing as an artist, releasing more music, expanding my catalog, and improving my production and creative skills. I want my songs to connect with listeners through authenticity, confidence, and memorable energy.
My goal is to build a lasting name in music by staying consistent, improving with every release, and creating music that represents my story, my city, and my vision.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My Struggle is
Being an artist who puts real substance into my music comes with its own challenges. I do not create just to fill space or follow whatever is popular at the moment. I put thought, emotion, experience, and meaning into my lyrics. I care about the message, the delivery, the production, and the feeling a listener gets after hearing the record.
That kind of work can feel overlooked, especially when attention sometimes goes to artists who may have less depth, less skill, or less to say. It can be frustrating to watch someone receive praise or opportunities when you know how much time you have spent sharpening your craft. Still, I have learned that recognition does not always arrive at the same pace as talent.
Staying True to My Craft
I believe real artistry takes patience. Writing music with substance means being willing to be honest, vulnerable, and intentional, even when it would be easier to make something with no deeper purpose. My music comes from lived experiences, ambition, pressure, growth, and the things that shape me as a person.
Feeling unappreciated can test your confidence, but it also reveals how committed you are to your purpose. I have had moments where I felt like my effort, skill, and message were not being seen the way they deserved to be. Those moments taught me to keep improving instead of letting comparison distract me.
Turning Frustration Into Motivation
I do not have to tear anyone else down to understand my own value. Every artist has a different path, and popularity is not always a measure of ability, substance, or long-term impact. I focus on becoming sharper, more consistent, and more undeniable with every song.
The people who connect with real music can hear the difference. My goal is not to chase temporary attention. My goal is to create records that hold weight, speak to people going through real life, and leave something meaningful behind.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a songwriter who likes to adapt to the beat and push my creativity. I Specialize in Bars and clever lines and the energy I bring to the track. I’m most proud of the fact that I set a goal and never gave up no matter what my relentlessness separates me from others.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In 5-10 I’ll be mentioned and known as one of the greats and will be recognized worldwide for my talent
