Life & Work with Yazzy Nicole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yazzy Nicole.

Yazzy Nicole

Hi Yazzy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Yasmin Rodriguez, AKA Yazzy Nicole (La Alpha), born and raised on that (Nawf Side) of H-Town. Before I became an artist, I spent most of my time working 12-hour shifts in the medical field. Every now and then, going out on the weekends with friends, but mostly chillin’ in my apartment. The passion for music has always been with me since I can remember. As a child, I participated in many dance competitions, spent all middle and high school a part of the drumline, wrote songs in my notebooks, and watched my siblings freestyling on the front porch. In 2020, my life changed when I stepped foot in 2020 Sound Recording Studios for the very first time. A friend of mine (Nadie El Anonymo) loved my voice and wanted me on a track. Fun Fact: I cried in the booth because I felt like I wasn’t good enough having to do it over and over again. I didn’t give up though. Hearing myself for the first time on the mic lit up a fire inside me to where I just wanted to express everything I have ever lived. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I found myself in being able to create a song. Today, I have 2 EP’s out, over 10 singles, and more features than I can count. Big shout out to producers SlowLife713, Sombrero Muzic & 300 Studios. I have been blessed to work with amazing artists like Bigg Boss Ent, Outsiders Music, Lucid Vivid Dreams, M.G.M.A Keesh, E45, Dead Forever, White Caracas, and many more. Throughout my journey, I have opened up for SnowThaProduct at the House Of Blues-Houston, Lil Wayne at Clayton’s South Padre Island, Kirko Bangz, Baby Bash, NB Ridaz, and Big Tuck. I have gained so much more confidence and plan to continue my journey as an Independent Artist. The love I have received is unmeasured and I want to thank everyone who has helped me in the process.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not easy being in an industry that’s highly opinionated period. You get a lot of love but at the same time a lot of hate. Not everyone is going to like you or your music, but I’ve learned to block out the negativity and push through. The key is only focus on those who do love you, the fans. As a woman, I’ve received so much double standards, misrepresentation, sexual harassment, and trash talk. It’s hard, most women don’t want their man doing a track with Yazzy Nicole or other female artists trying to find any reason to dislike me and mention me in their conversations. These things used to frustrate me a lot, but then you have to realize being the topic, whether it’s good or bad, is always good because it means you’re being thought about and important. As long as you mind your business and have good intentions, let them talk. Know yourself, love yourself, and the rest won’t matter.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most proud of my growth within the underground community as an artist. I’ve met so many people and built a solid foundation.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Mo City, Space City, Clutch City, My City!! What’s there not to love? One of my favorite tracks is “Houston State Of Mind” Prod. By SlowLife because our culture is part of the reason I am who I am today. I remember back in the gap; every Sunday, I’d go with brother to Slab Sunday. I was sitting passenger princess in an 87 Fleetwood Cadi swangin, and bangin ya feel me? There’s nothing like it anywhere else. The diversity is beautiful, and there’s always something to do in the H.
