Life & Work with Yovana Trevino of Pasadena Tx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yovana Trevino

Hi Yovana , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Mexico City, and I immigrated with my parents to Pasadena at the age of 8 years old, the feeling of being in a new city not having my family, and not knowing the language made me homesick! Years passed and I always had the feeling of missing my hometown, I got into the medical field but there was that empty hole of not feeling complete I’m not going to lie it was hard trying to figure out what I wanted to do with “my life” you know when they ask what is your purpose in life? I did not have an answer for that.
Then one time I went to visit my family back in Mexico and something hit me, I wanted to bring a little piece of Mexico to the USA I wanted to be able to share my beautiful culture, and I wanted to be able to create beautiful pieces.

My journey into the world of fair trade began with a deep admiration for the craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage of Mexico. Growing up surrounded by traditional Mexican art, I was always inspired by the stories and skills of artisans. After seeing firsthand the struggles many face in getting their work recognized and fairly compensated, I felt compelled to partner with them. This passion led me to start working directly with artisans across the country, collaborating to create unique clothing, jewelry, and pottery pieces. It’s been incredibly rewarding to showcase their talent to a broader audience while ensuring they are treated fairly and receive the recognition they deserve.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all, trying to manage a business a full-time job being a mom of 3 and a wife was definitely not easy! I quit my full-time job a few months after I started my business, and then trying to manage to be a mom of 3 and able to travel to different parts of Mexico has been tough but thank god I have an amazing support team my husband and my parents have been very supportive since day one I wouldn’t be able to do any of these without them.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
“I’ve always been a creative person, even from a young age, and I’m incredibly happy that I made the decision to follow my dreams. BeBeing able to express my creativity through designing unique pieces of clothing, jewelry, bags, etc, brings me so much joy. I absolutely love what I do. It’s not just about creating new designs; it’s also about connecting with people, especially the amazing women who appreciate and support my work. Their acceptance and encouragement fuel my passion even more, making this journey deeply rewarding.”

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
