Marcy Fair of Cypress on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marcy Fair. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Marcy, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Honestly, my business is called Marcy’s Mayhem for a reason. I’d love to say I’m confidently walking a straight path, but the truth is, I’m doing a little bit of both—walking and wandering. Some days I wake up and feel unstoppable, like I’ve got everything figured out. Other days, it’s the complete opposite—full of unexpected bumps, distractions, and moments of staring off into space a little too long.

When I started this business, the name Marcy’s Mayhem fit perfectly because I didn’t have all my ducks in a row—and I found the chaos comical. I still have those same ducks today, but now they’ve multiplied, and they occasionally wander off in every direction. It’s not always neat and orderly, but it’s real and mine.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Marcy! I create digital lessons and worksheets for upper elementary and middle school teachers to make learning fun while weaving in the curriculum skills kids need to succeed. My business started as a happy accident. After years of tutoring, I decided to take a year off from teaching to stay home with my newborn. During that time, I began creating resources for my tutoring students—and quickly discovered how much I loved writing and developing curriculum. What started as a side project became a true passion and the foundation of my business today.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was younger, I believed I was shy. I was afraid to speak up, talk to people, or stand up for myself. That couldn’t be further from the truth today. Now, I see myself as strong and confident. If something scares me, I push myself to face it right away, and I have no problem starting conversations or speaking with anyone.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been many times when I’ve said I would give up, but deep down, I never truly meant it. Now I recognize those moments as a signal that I must step away and take a break. Once I give myself that space, I can return with a clearer mind and the energy to try again.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
If you asked my closest friends, they’d probably say that staying humble and kind matters most to me, just like the Tim McGraw song. I wholeheartedly believe that what you put out into the world will always come back to you.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I know I’ll never regret betting on myself. So many people hold back because they’re afraid or doubt they can accomplish something great. For me, even the smallest step forward is still progress in the right direction. If your heart is telling you to do or try something, you owe it to yourself to listen and take that step.
