Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaliyah Brent.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I start designing jean jackets right before the pandemic hit in December 2019. My little sister was home from college and spent all her time on tiktok. She came arcoss a video of someone painting on a jean jacket asked if I would paint one for her. Immediately I was intimidated cause I had never really painted before outside of water colors as a kid or at painting with a twist. However, I do have a background in drawing and creating things on my iPad but painting, no. Especially not on clothes! I took on the challenge anyways. I started on the jacket in December but it took me awhile to complete with working a full time job. Fast forward to March 2020 I loss my job and had a bunch of time on my hands, so I started taking custom jacket orders….
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been pretty smooth it’s something that comes natural to me. I enjoy painting I can do it all day and it doesn’t feel like a job. The things I struggle with is the business side. I’m a creative and learning to navigate a business is something new for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I paint custom jean jackets, shorts, purses, etc. I paint on any & everything you allow me too. I’m proud of staying consistent with something I enjoy doing and not letting my 9 to 5 stop my creativity.
