Meet Aaron Miller of Elite Basketball Training in League City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Miller.

Aaron, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the head trainer of Elite Basketball Training for the past four years. I have had the opportunity to work with over 9 NBA players, 6 McDonalds All-Americans, 7 NBA Draft Picks and 2 players who lead the country in scoring during their collegiate career.

Before I started training, I finished my basketball career at Central Christian in Kansas as the leading scorer in the MCAC with 20.5 points per game. During my time in Kansas, I also earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Management. I have loved basketball my entire life and it has always been a passion of mine. Some of the NBA/Pro players I have trained include Damyeon Dotson from the New York Knicks, Wesley Iwundu from the Orlando Magic, Josh Gray from the New Orleans Pelicans, Jonathon Simmons, Isaiah Taylor, The Harrison Twins, D’Angelo Harrison, Rob Gray, Terran Petteway, and LJ Rose.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not always as bright as it is now, but I am forever grateful for those times and I wouldn’t change a thing. My first NBA client- Sheldon Mac, who was playing for the Washington Wizards at the time, was introduced to me through a mutual friend. We set up a workout and I didn’t have a private gym to take him to for a workout session. So, we met up at 24-hour fitness where of course there were people playing 5 on 5 full court games. I was working him out in between games, after the games were over, and trying to convince the people that we’re playing that I really needed this opportunity to show my worth and knowledge to Sheldon. Another story comes from my second NBA client, Josh Gray who currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans. Josh is originally from Louisiana but happened to be in Houston for a few weeks during the summer. At 10:30 PM on a weeknight, Josh put on his Instagram page that he was in search of a basketball trainer. I immediately direct messaged him that I would love the opportunity to work him out. He said that he wanted to work out at 7 AM the following morning and sent me the address. I responded and let him know that I would be there early ready to work. I put the address into my GPS, it was 90 minutes from my home. I was up at 5 AM and headed to workout with nothing to lose, no guarantees, a full workout planned, and most importantly a grateful heart that I was even given the opportunity. My career has been built on taking chances and making the most of them when that opportunity presents itself. I started out working for FREE for the first few years of my career trying to work out any and every person that I could to show people that I was worth it. It was a grind, it was full of obstacles, and it was a longer route to success. But I knew that with prayer, hard work, and a relentless work-ethic that things could start to change over time if I believed and stayed the course.

Elite Basketball Training – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
You should know that I am a father to an 11-month-old young man named Madden and a husband to my beautiful wife, Kelsey Lynn. My mindset has always been shaped around putting my family into position to succeed and when clients to give me the opportunity to work with them, I give it my all. I work with clients from ages 9 to NBA players and I treat everyone the exact same. I do my research ahead of time and I have an organized and structured plan that I am ready to execute before every workout. I know the player’s percentages, weaknesses, strengths, and habits. My goal is to obtain a full-time player development job whether that is with a team or continuing the path that I am on, at a bigger scale. Elite Basketball Training is an experience that will push clients to their limits but also fulfillment from progressing towards their goals. I now have Elite Pro Runs offered to the top professionals in Houston. I have individual workouts and group workouts available for all ages. I have 4-6 camps each year that serve over 50+ kids to impact the community and build a foundation that the student-athletes can build on moving forward.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I attribute the success of my business to my ability to see the positive in every situation, bringing energy whenever given an opportunity, and most importantly putting God first. I have worked so many hours and prayed just as hard to get to this point in my career. I believe that when things were tough in the beginning and started out slow, I embraced those moments. I had a vision for the future and everyone didn’t see what I saw. If it weren’t for the adversity in the early years- I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the present and I’m thankful for that.
