Meet Aaron and Sonya Orr of Commissional Coffee in Conroe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron and Sonya Orr.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We got started on this journey by simply saying yes to faith and no to fear. Easier said than done but through a series of heartbreaking events filled with loss and pain God granted us a gift, the gift of perspective, and for us it’s an eternal perspective. We realized that life is fragile and can end at any moment and we just want to be faithful with the time we are given and make it count for eternity. Around this time, I read a book called “Evangelpreneur” which was about combining evangelism and entrepreneurship or simply put a business with a mission that can be used to make a difference. This concept resonated with me (Aaron) so much that I couldn’t sleep at night, and after much prayer, research, and council Commissional Coffee was formed. We will have our three year anniversary coming up in November 17th , please join us! We have both a physical location and online store where you can purchase our wonderful coffee and other local products.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We have learned that pursuing your calling will always require you to step out of your comfort zone and into the unknown, which I’ll admit is a very scary place but the alternative of a life filled with regrets and “what if’s” to us is even scarier. It hasn’t been easy but it has been so worth it and we have gotten to meet so many wonderful people and seen so many wonderful things as we take one step at a time by faith.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

Here at Commissional Coffee, serving people is not just a great passion but a great commission. We love to make a great cup of coffee but we live to make a difference. Our business model is simple: We are a for profit coffee roasting company that invests all of it’s “after tax profits” into strategically chosen non-profits or ministries, who’s work matches our mission. Our Mission is simple: Fulfill The Great Commission of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, through both the Proclamation and Demonstration of The Gospel Of The Kingdom.
All of our coffee is freshly roasted, fairly traded and organic. We roast our coffee weekly and offer various origins and roast profiles.
In addition to our amazing coffee we also offer a variety of local items and other amazing products!

What were you like growing up?
I (Aaron) was into sports growing up, basketball in particular and always enjoyed making people laugh. I have a laid back personality and get along with almost everybody. I have always been very analytical, a philosophical deep thinker, and a big dreamer.

I (Sonya) had some rough teenage years, grew up in a neighborhood filled with gangs and drugs. By the age of 12 I attempted suicide and by 15 I had a drug overdose that almost took my life. Found true hope at the age of 16 when I surrendered my life to Jesus. My life was never the same. I live my life with an eternal perspective for I always remember that I’m living on borrowed time!

On a lighter note 😉 I enjoy painting, making jewelry, reading, helping others, cracking jokes & hanging out with close friends and loved ones.

I’m a homeschool Mom and have two amazing daughters Emily and Elizabeth!
