Meet Abigail Myers of Abigail Myers Photography in Dickinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Myers.

Abigail, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After my daughter was born in 2006 I purchased my first camera and fell in love with the art. 8 years later, my husband surprised me with my first DSLR camera and I began my journey. Having children made me realize the importance of having quality photos to treasure. Since then I have been able to build a successful photography business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Building a business from scratch is never a smooth road, no matter the business. It was definitely an investment but one worth making. A photography business comes with a learning curve including balancing family life, clients, time, and investing in the business.

Abigail Myers Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
In the digital age, finding a photographer who truly knows and values the knowledge, skill and technique required to execute a vision can be very trying and frustrating. People tend to fall victim to affordability over quality and I feel that I offer both.

After shooting everything and anything, I found that my true passions are birth and weddings. I still shoot family portraits and the occasional high school senior but definitely have a soft spot for the storytelling that I get to do with weddings and births.

My clients fall in love with me because of the connection we make as well as my talent. I don’t treat my clients like clients; I treat them like family, which I am proud of.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is the joy on my client’s faces or the joyful texts I receive when they view their galleries. A major milestone was when I was lucky enough to have a small feature of one of my first weddings. In that moment I felt like I had found what I was meant to do.

Since then, I have been given opportunities but the one that I am the most proud of is shooting for a local monthly magazine. However, the successes that I have had would not have happened if it wasn’t for my clients putting their trust in me. Their support has to lead me to get features such as VoyageHouston.
