Meet Adam Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Sanchez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Adam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in the Missouri City/Sugar Land area. Graduated from Kempner High School. Growing up, I always used to watch the Sunday morning political talk shows and always found politics interesting. My appreciation for public service really started to take shape when I started working for the City of Missouri City, in the Public Works department in 2014. I’ve seen how the city government worked from the ground up. Since I lived in Stafford, I wanted to take what I learned in those short 5+ years and use it to advance Stafford, Texas into the future. Some may be turned off by my lack of executive experience and me being only 30 years old. But I’ve lived in Stafford for 3-4 years and worked for growing small business for 5+ years due to the business natured environment that only Stafford could cultivate. I believe how I was raised is another reason why I have a passion for public service, it’s about helping people and the greater good. Small selfless acts that goes a long way.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth having comes easy. Being a minority has its obstacles in and out of the political world. I’ve had people point blank that I don’t know what I’m doing and trying to discourage what I want to accomplish for the city. I knew to go into this that it wasn’t going to be easy, but I believe in the reason why I’m running, I believe in the future of this great city. I also have a good support system with family and friends that knows my character, knows my values and knows that my heart is in the right place. I was raised by a single mother, she’s my hero, she raised three boys by herself. She can be my harshest critic but my biggest supporter and the person I am is all because of her. I’ve met people throughout this election that have given me advice and lessons that I can take moving forward.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I think being Mayor of Stafford, I could take the solid foundation and propel into the future. The uniqueness of Stafford is the no property tax and that it has its own municipal school district. To keep no city property tax, you have to spend wisely and budget, so that residents don’t sacrifice services. My unique perspective of city government allows me to see things from a city employee’s point of view that maybe a politician doesn’t see. I want to raise the standard of StaffordMSD. It’s one thing to have your own schools district, but it’s another to be the best in the area. And I believe that with the help of residents, the council, and the school board, we can accomplish great things. I’d also like to attract more visitors to Stafford. I will utilize the new grid development and combine existing Stafford Center and the entertainment Mecca in the fountains to bring our homegrown business’ more revenue.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The economic climate continues to change. We need to adapt to the times and diversify our city revenue while not implementing new taxes. I rather move away from relying so much on retail tax in the age of Amazon when so many companies are ditching big box stores for online shopping. We also have to do comprehensive drainage for the future because storms are getting bigger and stronger and more frequent.
