Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Rawlings.
Adrienne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Photography has always been my passion. I started in high school when I was able to develop film in the darkroom. These are some of my fondest memories, and I was also a photographer on our yearbook team.
Through college, I was able to take more classes that helped me dive into the digital world. Since then, I have taken workshops, online classes, and many trainings to help me get to where I am now.
I was determined to make this dream come true so I photographed everything under the sun – weddings, funerals (yep… for real), parties, etc. This past year was so wonderful for me because I have finally found my photography voice. I know exactly where I want to be, and I work every day to get there. In May, I opened my photography studio while 8 months pregnant. Although it wasn’t ideal timing, it was an amazing opportunity that I just couldn’t pass up. Since then I have truly been able to focus on the type of photography that I feel passionate about – babies and families.
Since having children, I know how important it is to document these precious times. Some of my favorite sessions are my documentary and lifestyle sessions because these are the moments that I want to remember forever.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been smooth sailing. Houston is a very competitive market for photography. For a while, I was jumping at the chance to take pictures for people, and I was trying too hard to do what was trendy instead of focusing on what I loved to do.
This past year I have truly focused on my style and making Color Me Pink exactly what makes ME happy instead of trying to compete with others. This has been the biggest change, and it’s definitely paid off. I am finally at a place where I am confident in the art that I am producing, and clients now come to me knowing exactly what style they will be getting.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Color Me Pink Photography specializes in Maternity, Newborn, Family and Documentary photography.
I am most known for my documentary sessions because they aren’t your “traditional” session. There is nothing posed or staged about them, and I do not know of many photographers who offer them. These photos are raw, real and document exactly what is happening in your life. I started doing these with my own children because as much as I love the posed photo of us hanging on my wall, this is not our everyday life.
My daughter playing on my heels, the donut date that my husband takes her on every Saturday, baking cookies, etc. These are times that I want to remember forever, and I felt so passionate about them, I decided to start offering these sessions to clients.
My Fresh48 Documentary sessions are by far some of my favorites because they document first few days after Baby arrives. Every time I do one of these, my heart explodes!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is such an amazing place for photographers. Our city is so big and offers so many different backdrops. From the city buildings to open fields, There is a large group of photographers here who all support each other. Also, with such a large population, there is also someone wanting photos!
