Today we’d like to introduce you to Aiko Hayashi.
Hi Aiko, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Japanese calligraphy artist. I was born and raised in Japan and started Japanese calligraphy when I was 5 years old. In Japan, I worked in the fashion industry, but I moved to France in my late 20s because I loved Paris and wanted to live there, I met my husband there and moved to Mexico for his job, and now I live in Texas.
In 2018, I launched my online store ZEN ART CALLIGRAPHY and started my Japanese calligraphy journey. I basically work on my artwork at home.
I also participate in Japanese festivals and art events and recently held a workshop at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In Japan, there is a word called KOTODAMA, which means the belief in the magical spirit power of words.
Since I write many good words, good things may be happening through words. I have not had too many difficulties. I was really lucky.
And I am grateful for all the things and encounters.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I learn calligraphy techniques by practicing the characters of the old Chinese masters. When I am writing my own work, it is a little different. As I write, it is like a deep meditation, and I feel the energy and inspiration from the universe coming through my body to my work. Artwork reflects who you are.
To create a beautiful artwork that the people who see it can feel in their hearts and minds
I have to keep improving myself and my mind.
One of my favorite sayings is “Climb high mountains slowly.
I believe that I can go slowly, just as I can notice a flower blooming on the side of the road.
I think I will be able to draw much better than I do today by when I reach the age of 100.
I am trying to exercise, eat well, and sleep well so that I can live a healthy and happy life!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
When I perform at events, everyone is really excited, and I really appreciate it. I have received warm messages from all over the world from customers who have bought my artworks, saying that they were moved to tears when they saw them in person, and it really means a lot to me. This exchange of gratitude and gratitude brings me joy. I would like to perform in the U.S. and Europe as well. I hope to have an exhibition in my favorite city, Paris, someday.
I wish to plant seeds of happiness words all over the world and make them bloom in the hearts of people.
