Meet Alex Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Lopez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alex. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in the industry about three years ago as a technician for another company, making only 20% per sale. The company went through hardship and through several different name changes, causing the client attraction to go down. During an estimate, I was met with another Garage Door company owner who I won the sale over, and the owner later approached me about a job opportunity with a higher percentage rate. So, I took the opportunity! Over several months with the new company, the business began to grow, and so did the number of employees. During that time, I became responsible for leading and training the team alongside the owner, all while still being an active father, husband and soccer coach. Through time and changes within the company and personal life, I decided to work along side a coworker to help grow his Garage Door company. We made several different moves and accomplished great successes. But I later knew it was time for an even bigger endeavor. So, I decided to open my own company, making my own hours (24/7), and making even better prices. Prices that will make customers feel better about how they invest their money. Whether it be for a change in appearance, an actual condition issue, or a ready to sell property customer, I knew that I wanted to incorporate my oldest daughter while still coming up with something that would be appealing to the customer when creating the name, so I went with Penny-Less Doors. A Garage Door company is servicing the greater Houston area for all Garage Door needs.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The transition from an employee to an actual entrepreneur was a huge financial risk. Just like it is for many new growing companies. I had a newborn baby and another daughter still recovering from appendicitis and wife also recovering from health issues she encountered when having our second daughter. I found myself with only $200 in my bank account, questioning whether or not I made the right decision for myself and my family—all in a time of a slow season and shortage of Garage door repairs.

Penny-Less Doors – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Penny-Less Doors repairs, replaces and installs Garage Doors/Garage Door Motors as well as frame and reframe garages, and etc. Specializing in all Garage Door repairs and known for quality in work and customer service. Being dependable and reliable, all while gaining the customer’s trust to help provide curb appeal is what makes Penny-Less Doors different, and myself proud of.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Seeing a customer’s reaction after every job, knowing they’re impressed that I did a really good job and fulfilling the customer’s specific need is how I personally identify success. My criteria are a thorough safety inspection, an explanation of the process and informing the customer of all the pros and cons of different equipment. Then looking for ways to help a customer best invest in their garage door project.
