Meet Alex Ruata

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Ruata.

Alex, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started in Houston, TX when I was about two years old banging on pots and pans in my parent’s house. Drumming came naturally as to me as a gift from God since my family wasn’t musically inclined. I started taking drum lessons at the age of six, after a year and a half of doing that, I began teaching myself and still learning new things to this day. My love for music began to develop while growing up in church that passion began flourishing when he was 14 years old. In 2008, I started playing for different churches in Houston/Tomball area that’s when some of my networking happened. In 2011, I went to college on a swimming scholarship and graduated with my degree in Business Marketing in 2015. After graduation, I came back to Houston and started playing with churches again. I’m currently drumming full-time for Grace Church Houston and participating in studio sessions from time to time in addition to full-time day job.

Shoutout to the companies that I endorse: Diril Cymbals, Fusion Bags, & Flam Gear Co.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t a smooth road, there were a lot of bumpy roads along way. The struggle was not getting any of the good gigs and a lot of great musical opportunities. Those were definitely discouraging times and I wanted to give up, but that’s when I decided to keep pushing through. During that growing season that’s when I realized it’s only about how good you are or how well you play, it’s about who you know and who you’re connected with.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
It has always been a dream to have my studio. After recording drums for a few projects back in 2016, 2017, and 2018, I decided to make my dream a reality in 2019.

I record drum tracks and percussion tracks from my home studio.

I’m more well known for my work at Grace Church Houston as the full-time drummer.

What I’m most proud of with my company is that I’m able to provide high-quality drum tracks for a good price.

Although I record from my house, I’m still able to go record at different studios.

I believe what sets me apart besides the fact that this is a God-given talent, being passionate about my craft, showing enthusiasm while I’m playing, my ability to learn the music and pick it up quickly.

High Quality Gear in my studio:
Pearl Drums, Diril Cymbals, Remo Drumheads, LP Percussion, Vic Firth Drumsticks, 64 Audio IEMs, Fusion Bags, Big Fat Snare Drum, Shure Microphones, Logic Pro X

Another endeavor that I’ll be pursuing: One of my good friends and I will be starting our own YouTube channel called DrumDojoHTX where there will be covers, educational content, as well as interviews with other local musicians in the industry. We will be live with content on May 15, 2020

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
In the 5th grade, I saved up enough money to buy my first Pearl Drum Set.
