Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Wolfe.
Alex, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Our story here at Scrubs by JMS starts out like a lot of small business! but I’d like to say our story comes with a lot of twist and turns.
We are a family own and operated store located in Pearland, TX. Six years in we never thought we’d be where we are today.
The vision starting out was small yet simple! We wanted to provide our customers with quality product that they could be happy with and then refer to their friends and those friends tell their friends, We did not provide Scrubs like we do now! We started by renting out a small shopping cart in the Pearland Town center where we sold custom Christian based t-shirts and jackets ” Stand” was the brand and that’s all we sold. (Standing Tall And Never Doubting) is what it stood for.
We stayed in the Shopping Cart for about six months and then we moved into office spaces in the town center! and this is where the growth begins. We added custom Embroidery, screen printing and promotional items to the list of things that we provided, The idea behind that was to help companies brand their business by putting their logo on hats bags, pens and other items that you could put a logo on. And then another moves comes (Cube Smart Office and Storage spaces!!!) This location is was big enough for us to be able to purchase our very own embroidery machines so we no longer had to send out our work we could do it all in-house and cut cost.
We stayed there for two years before growth forced us to move again! Each time we moved business grew with us! We have been blessed to do business with several local car dealerships within the 610 loop and school within the Alvin and Pearland District. The new locations was located on Mchard road and 2234. While the space was bigger and allowed us to be able to accommodate all of our equipment our visibility had decrease and nobody knew we were there. So we had to brainstorm and look for another location where we could be seen and also continue to get the word out about what we do!
After a year of being at the Mchard location we get word that there is a new storefront available at Pearland town center so we moved quickly to secure the location, in the process of moving we also came up with the Idea to sell Medical scrubs being as though we are right in the hub of the Medical center it just made sense! And here we are today.
Its been a long and very hard journey! Would we say it it’s over and that our story is done being written? Of course not! in Entrepreneurship is an ongoing process of learning how to get better while growing from your mistakes.
So here and Scrubs By Jms thats t what we continue to do and the end goal is to put a smile on every single customers face that walks through our door.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The Road has been far from smooth! We’ve had many days where we didn’t know how we were going to pay the bills and keep the lights on, business would get very slow and we go for weeks without any orders at times and that a scary feeling, because without any orders that means no paycheck.
But through it all we had to continue to keep the faith and believe that things would get better as long as we didn’t give up. We didn’t and we are now able to see the fruits of our labor.
Please tell us about Scrubs by JMS.
We are an embroidery business first! So that means if you need a logo or name to be placed on Caps, hats, bags t-shirts we can do that. Secondary we are a scrub store as well. We provide brands like Koi and Jockey that we can provide customer embroidery on as well.
We take pride in the fact that we don’t like to sell or provide a product to a customer until they are please with it. Along the way we’ve had complaints and mishaps. But with those mistakes and complaints we try to use those as learning curves to get better and try our best to please the next customer. Because a happy customer is a customer that will return so that’s what we strive for.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we had a chance to start over we really wouldn’t change anything. We needed the hardships that we endured. It had made us grow as a company and build better employees. In life you’re going to have bad things that happen to you but it’s how you learn to overcome them that makes you better.
