Meet Alexander McCullough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander McCullough.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m originally from a small town in East Texas. I moved to the Houston area to go to college and that’s when I began to pursue a comedy career. Even as a kid I always loved to see people smile, so going into comedy was a natural feeling choice.

Please tell us about your art.
I do stand up comedy, viral comedy, just about any kind of activity that brings laughs and smiles to peoples faces. I spend a good portion of my day thinking of jokes, skits, and stories. I literally have journals and notebooks full of material that I hope to use one day in my work. I am a firm believer that a smile can really make a difference in someone’s day. So in the 2, 5, 15, or 30 minutes that I have the attention of the crowd I like to make the rest of the world disappear and for those periods of time, I want them to feel like everything is good. You never truly know what a person is going through so during that time that I’m performing I want to help to be able to shine a light that can hopefully help the person listening keep moving forward.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Making a difference is what I define as success, If I can make people laugh or at the very least smile then I feel successful. Like I said before that one laugh or smile could mean the world to someone. Life is hard, and sometimes it just gets so difficult we forget that there are brighter days ahead, so I take it as a personal mission to help remind them that times will get better. If I can do that, then I feel successful.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I perform at different clubs around Houston. If you really want to find me just look around your local Open Mic night and it’s a good chance I will be somewhere around. I also upload skits and things on my social media accounts, so even if you can’t see me live you can still get your fixing of laughter. The best way for people to support me is to just keep showing up and keep believing in me. I will also be releasing T-Shirts and Hoodies later this year for the supporters who want to be able to support me in that way.
