Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Mirabal.
Hi Alexander, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My beginning was studying visual arts in Venezuela. I did my internship working in a television channel with very few resources, where thanks to that, I was able to learn a little about everything. Then they called me to work for the most important advertising agencies worldwide based in Caracas – Venezuela. I was an Audiovisual producer for 3 years, and that’s where I fell in love with cinematography.
I learned everything I know about agency production thanks to Ana Teresa Vasquez, my mentor and today considered part of my family. I also had the opportunity to meet super talented people, but without a doubt, those who marked my life and are my references were the directors and cinematographers Mauricio De Vita and Vicenter Gazzara. Being with them on set was amazing, the vibe they had and how they handled the film set was second to none. The way they had to understand light was fascinating to me.
After the agency, I went to work in other areas but always linked in some way to the world of advertising.
In 2014 I had to move to Costa Rica, and, among other things, I worked for a super important production company. It was there that I met the other side of production. I had the opportunity to work with very important international cinematographers, directors, and producers.
Working with people from different countries has given me the opportunity to absorb and nourish myself with the best of the best.
In 2016 I emigrated to the United States, but it was not until 2017 that I began to meet people in the world of events. There I crossed cin Anubys Lopez. It was an immediate Click where we started working and brainstorming. In 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, we decided to put together a small team to carry out the first script of Anubys Lopez as director and writer and me as Director of Photography and Cameraman. That film was called Those who Call, and although it was made with almost no resources, it was the first stone for the entire path that lies ahead.
In 2022 we made the second movie called Adge. Currently, the two films are on platforms such as Amazon Prime and Tubi. We are already working on the next film, and the idea is for this to continue.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes, of course. My native language is Spanish, and the fact of arriving here to learn a new language, meet people and make new connections was a great challenge. It took a long time to understand that everything is a process that takes time and that you have to take it calmly but without stopping. With a lot of consistency and doing things well you can achieve good results.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an audiovisual storyteller, and as a filmmaker is also known. I have always been surrounded by very talented people from the visual arts. I have managed to absorb many of the good things about these artists, and I have become obsessed with photography, light, and cinematographic composition. I started implementing my knowledge in wedding films, and then I had the opportunity to use this knowledge is the first movie, “Those Who Cal”l. A year later, we filmed “Aged,” and they are currently on some of the main streaming platforms such as Tubi and Amazon Prime. We are already working on developing content for YouTube, and the script for the next movie is in the process of finishing it to be able.
