Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Warren.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexandra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey as a romance author actually began when I was living in Omaha, Nebraska, my hometown. Back then, I was making time to write romance novels while also working as a preschool teacher. And when I moved to Houston four years ago, I decided I would pursue writing full-time. Thankfully, the universe worked in my favor, allowing me to continue writing full-time with over twenty published works to show for it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think in being a creative, a lot of the bumps in the road come from within. So while creating often times feels freeing, sometimes it can be a struggle too. For me, the internal struggles were mostly getting over the self-doubt of how my work would be perceived, trusting that I could truly make a living from this, and learning how to be disciplined during the transition from having a boss to being self-employed. All “not easy” things, but also very welcomed challenges.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
As a self-published contemporary romance author, my focus is completely on telling stories of black love, even more specifically black millennial love. I strive to write stories that are fresh, fun, humorous, and of course, swoon-worthy; a style I’m proud to contribute to the romance landscape.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel very lucky to have found an author community of like-minded women fairly early in my writing career. It’s their constant support, wisdom, and encouragement that gets me through on the tougher writing days.
