Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexia Washington.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a young girl, I’d sit with my mother and think of new ways to give the house a fresh look for whatever season was approaching. Holidays were always anticipated but even to welcome spring or even fall gave us a reason to go to the drawing board and work out new paint swatches and window treatments. This was a particular chore that brought me great joy and it wasn’t until I became an adult establishing a career in a completely different field that I realized what truly made me happy, was interiors. I noticed that when I’d watch shows and movies the setting would catch my attention. I’d tend to the details of each space. The furniture, the decor, the space in its entirety. Once I realized that I spent much of my time gravitating toward interior decor I made the decision to take something I enjoyed and share it with others in my community and across the nation. I spent time understanding the business of interior design and decor and also cultivating my craft. I’ve explored so many facets of design that I was able to transform what was once a hobby for me, into a business that helps others. I was led by “do what you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life” and here we are. Loving what I do every chance I get while helping and serving people.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For myself, the biggest challenge was understanding the business that accompanies the art. It’s ideal to want to hone in on your craft and hire skilled professionals to take care of the rest while you create, but it’s very important to teach yourself what it is you need to know first.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Swank Aesthetics – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Swank Aesthetics is an interior design focused business created by myself. I am an independent female built a business. I specialize in interior design, decor and styling services for residential properties.
As a Texas native, having grown up in Sugarland/Richmond area I enjoy working with families of my community. I was honored and most proud of my service post-hurricane Harvey. I had the opportunity to work with many families to restore their flooded and damaged homes back to a place they’d create new memories in. I worked diligently to restructure and restore not only these families homes but their peace of mind.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As for the future of Swank Aesthetics, I hope to expand the team while continuing to provide professional, interior services to those of the Houston community.
