Meet Alexis Patterson of Lex Get Stylish in The Woodlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Patterson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since I was little, owning my own business was always the goal. I dreamed of having my own boutique but I never thought I’d have one at 20-years-old. Around the beginning of April, I began to have health issues and one day God told me “why wait”. All of this was happening around the time of the Black Lives Matter protests and I knew the first item I wanted to bring to my brand was a shirt that represented that I am proud to be black. I created a mock shirt and posted it on my social media for what would eventually be my “Afro Tee” and my socials went crazy. After getting multiple people telling me they would want one, I continued to do my research and invest in myself. Finally in the end of July, I launched my website and to this day, I am continually adding items from fashionable dresses, jumpsuits, blouses and more.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. I literally started from the bottom, I taught myself everything there is to know about starting a business: taxes, licenses, website building, etc. Minoring in Business Administration gave me some background knowledge but it mostly all came from hours of research. Another struggle was self-doubt, I dream so big sometimes that it scares me but my sisters and parents were by my side every step of the way and gave me the confidence I needed to continue.

Lex Get Stylish – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is called Lex Get Stylish, and its a play off my name Alexis. It is a boutique that sells fashionable jumpsuits, dresses, blouses and more. We are mainly known for my original design I created “‘I Matter’ Afro Tee” which is also what I am most proud of. Every time I see my shirt design on a customer, it gives me so much hope on what is to come in the future. That shirt design is also what sets me apart, no one can get that design from anyone else, its my design and can only be found from my website.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is hard to describe and is ultimately subjective. If I had to define success, it would be growth. Continually growing in not only my finances but mentally as well would be a marker that I am on the right track towards success.
