Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfred Moody.
Alfred, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been servicing the Houston Area for over 30 years as one of the top hairstylists on the Northside of Houston. While continuously serving as an owner/operator of my salon Hair Fashions by Moody. I have also been fortunate enough to pursue a passion as a fashion consultant for the many women and men of Houston, Texas and its surrounding areas. Over the years, I had received several inquiries as to where I purchased my clothing pieces from when I went to different events, and I would always receive encouragement to pursue a career in fashion or to become a consultant. Through these many affirmations, the vision of my very own clothing store came to life on September 7, 2010, and Double Take Fashions Studio was birthed!
Starting out, I removed all the furniture in my living room, brought in several racks, and would sale clothes out of my living/dining room… and with an abundance of prayers and a whole lot of faith, I’m still running a successful business seven years later. On December 4, 2016, Double Take Fashions Studio was blessed to open its very own storefront. Since then we have been known as the go-to place for young men going to prom wanting a different and unique look. However, just not for prom, we provide a one of a kind look for any special occasions that our customers have going on in their lives from weddings, vacations, or just wanting to be trendy and up to date with the latest fashions… we ensure style, grace, and class in any place you step into and earning you a DOUBLE TAKE from everyone who catches a glimpse of your utter brilliance.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely NOT! Being an owner of different businesses, you know that entrepreneurship has its ups and downs. One of the main challenges that I face is being a male buyer/consultant is making sure I purchase the RIGHT clothes for women. Ensuring garments are trendy, sexy, flattering to the body, and catering to women with different body types. Over the years, I have had to consult with close friends/family members for their guidance on what is trending and what they would wear for date night or a night out with the girls. This gives me a better insight on what to purchase and allow me to stay relevant in this industry.
Another challenge is when dressing guys, we usually like to stay neutral with the black, blue, grey, or brown. A lot of guys think wearing color questions their masculinity. So, we spend a lot of time putting together several pieces for guys to show them how color can enhance the look, still be masculine, and make them do a DOUBLE TAKE… all at the same time!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Double Take Fashions Studio for Men and Women story. Tell us more about it.
Double Take Fashions Studio For Men and Women offers a vast array of fashion choices for people with individual styles, tastes, and preferences. It is our duty to help our customers make the ideal fashion statements based on their personalities. As a forward-moving company, we do not believe in setting any limits as to how people should express themselves through garments, fabrics, and accessories. We want our men and women clients alike to feel comfortable and empowered with what they’re wearing, constantly drawing attention at any event or in any occasion they attend.
What makes us most proud as a company and sets us apart from others is our willingness to take a risk with fashion and be daring… putting things together no one would think of, yet still being classy and glamourous. Our overall goal is to make them do a DOUBLE TAKE when you walk in the room!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Within the next 5-10 years, I would like to open up 2-3 more clothing stores and be afforded the opportunity to dress young men going to prom across the states.
