Meet Alicia Jammer of Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene in Sugar Land

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Jammer.

Alicia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story is a little unique as I grew up in a small rural town where everyone knew everyone.

I was born and raised just 30 minutes south of Houston in Angleton, Texas. I met my husband, Quentin Jammer, at the age of 14 years old. We were high school sweethearts that got married soon after I graduated high school in 2000. We had three children, Kaden, Kaleb and Kasen, who most refer to them as the “Jammer Boys or K3.” Even though I was being mom, I attended Cal State University-San Marcos where I earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business with an emphasis in Marketing. Life brings you many obstacles and mine were just beginning.

In 2013, I went through a divorce and relocated to Houston, Texas from San Diego, California with my three children. I found myself like so many others completely lost. I spent the next several years working really hard on re-inventing myself. Trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted in life. I would like to say it’s been a breeze but the truth is, working on yourself and finding your passion and purpose in life is anything but easy. Not to mention, I had to make sure that my kids had stability. I’m not sure if that is the right verbiage but they went through a very difficult transition. They went from interacting with their father every day to moving across the state to a new school, new friends and a new environment.

Those closest to me would say, I’ve come full circle since moving to Texas but I like to say I’m constantly growing and evolving to be the best version of Alicia that I can be not only for me but for my children and those around me. Divorce is tough on everyone involved and working through that is even harder. So many mixed emotions and trials but at the end of the day, I had to work on the broken pieces in my life. It was my responsibility to take care of my mind, body and soul. I went on a journey that was more difficult than I could have ever imagined. I used to think I would arrive at some magical place; I must have created that vision in my head. The truth is, you never stop working on yourself. Every day is an opportunity to grow. I’ve learned that experience is the best teacher.

After the transition to Texas, I gathered my thoughts and tried to refocus on my career. I thought about the Real Estate industry and how I could make an impact in the community. My ex-husband and I purchased and sold a few homes in California but I never really looked at it from the Realtor’s perspective. When I moved to Texas and purchased my home, I realized no one ever really sat me down to explain the buying/selling process. The process seemed short and sweet and if you blinked, you were at the closing table. I’ve had great mentors as both of my sisters are tied to the real estate industry. One sister served as an Eminent Domain Coordinator for 17 years and my other sister has been in property management for over 20 years. It seemed real estate was the perfect choice for me.

I would like to say that I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and since moving to Texas being an entrepreneur as a Realtor has allowed me the flexibility I needed to be there for my boys. I love my clients and navigating them through the process of purchasing or selling their home. It is a true blessing to be part of.

Today, I bring over ten years of marketing experience to the real estate world. My love for helping people, combined with my knowledge of the real estate industry, has made it an easy transition to becoming a full-time real estate “advisor”. I use the word advisor because it is my job to advise them on the entire homebuying/selling process so that they may make an informed decision. My education approach to real estate allows me to bring forth, breakdown and analyze data and problem-solving skills to help my clients find their dream home. I believe in continuing education to keep me abreast in the real estate world. I have earned numerous designations such as: Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI), Master Certified Negotiation Expert (MCNE), Accredited Buyers Representative (ABR), Sellers Representative (SRS), Certified Home Marketing Specialist (CHMS), Certified Probate Real Estate Specialist (CPRES) & Multi-Cultural Real Estate Professional (MCREP).

I am also a very active member of the community taking on numerous leadership positions. In 2016, I served as the Women’s Council of Realtors Fort Bend Network Secretary, 2017 President- Elect and in 2018 the WCR President. Currently, I am serving as the 2019 Houston Association of Realtors Fort Bend Network Chair. I have received the Visionary Award for the Women’s Investors Network award in 2017, the 2018 entrepreneur award for the Houston Power Professionals and in 2019 a recipient of the 7th annual Top 50 Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs of Texas.

My mission as a Real Estate Advisor is to ensure my client’s experience is a seamless transaction for every aspect of their home purchase or sale. My ability to educate my clients throughout their home buying/selling process is why my clients love working with me. My loyal clientele, personal referrals and repeat business are the building blocks of my career. My expertise is not only helping my clients find the right home for their family but also the right neighborhood with all the amenities that are important to them.

Just recently, I started a new adventure by joining ZYIA as an independent representative. ZYIA is an active lifestyle brand whose culture believes in women, men and kids being active and having fun while doing so. As so many know, I am a fitness enthusiast. I’m always moving throughout the day handling different tasks, whether it’s meeting a client or attending my boys’ sports events. I tell everyone if I could sell Real Estate in my activewear, I would. Now, I get to bridge the gap between the too. This new opportunity allows me to expand my network and I can’t wait to help others shift from business attire to comfortable ZYIA attire.

I love to workout, travel, give back and volunteer, spend time with family and loved ones and in between clients, you can always find me cheering for my boys at football, basketball games and track meets. As you can see, there is not a lot of free time but when I do get a little time to myself you can find me working out, hanging with my friends/family or on my couch reading or watching Lifetime.

One of the biggest highlights and blessings of my life is that in 2017, I traveled to Zambia, Africa for a mission trip where I worked on the ground for two weeks bringing hope and joy to the men, women and children of Zambia. I went to Zambia, thinking I would be able to inspire, uplift and leave a mark. After being in Zambia and seeing first-hand their day to day, I realized they were pouring more into me than I could ever them.

Now at the age of 37, I am in a place that once seemed out of reach. I now know that everything I ever dreamed of was already built inside of me. It took trial and error, failing, investing in myself, picking myself back up when I did fail and most importantly loving myself past all my flaws and imperfections. I have created two credible businesses all by staying true to who I am. I am who I am today because all that I have gone through and now I look at it as part of my journey. I am a believer that the universe has aligned everything for me at the right time. I am at peace with my past, in love with the present and I look forward to an even brighter future.

No matter where you are in your journey, I’m ready to help YOU make your MOVE when you are, whether it’s real estate needs or to be comfortable on the go! #closingsANDclothing is my new MOTTO!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would like to tell everyone that it’s been an easy road, and I’m sure from the outside looking in that it seems that way, but the truth is anything but. The biggest struggle I had was figuring out who I was, what I wanted and what that looked like. I knew from therapy that until I could answer this question, nothing else would make sense. I had to dig deep after my divorce in therapy and I know first-hand that working on yourself and figuring out who you are is a process and many give up because it takes you to places that are uncomfortable. My therapist helped me stay the course because it was only in the uncomfortable places that I would grow.

Once I did the work, everything else started to fall into place. I get asked all the time, “how is your real estate business, you seem like you are doing really well?” I am very honest with people about the work it takes to build a name and brand for yourself. My first year in real estate, I only did leases. My first listing was from a property call into my office. I tell them if you think everyone you know is going to buy a home from you, think again! I can’t tell you how many times I am on social media and see people buy/sell a home and didn’t even reach out to me. I learned very quickly that not everyone will support you and I had to be ok with that. My job is to focus on those that are and build from there. In the 5 ½ years, I have been in real estate, my business has continued to grow, and I am thankful for that. Could it be better? Of course, and that’s where investing in myself/business comes in. As a Realtor ®, you have to put yourself out there which means be authentic, genuine and approachable.

This year, I started my video marketing which is something I have dreaded. I don’t mind pictures but hearing myself talk, I just want to delete the videos lol. I started off with client testimonials then showcase Saturdays and that got me out of my shell. Just a few weeks ago, I hosted a Free Home Buyer Seminar where I brought all the pieces to the real estate puzzle together to answer questions from potential clients. Working for yourself, I learned you have to be willing to go the extra mile for your clients and do what others aren’t willing to do and from my experience, that is educating them on the process.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I attended Cal State University – San Marcos where I earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business with an emphasis in Marketing. I bring over ten years of marketing experience to the real estate world. My love for helping people combined with her knowledge of the real estate industry made it an easy transition to becoming a full-time real estate advisor with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene. After I passed my Real Estate exam, I met with a few companies to figure out the perfect fit for me. When I sat down with Nikki Owen, my current broker, it was like I had met her before and we were old friends. We talked about real estate and everything in between and she even gave me a few tips on how to navigate this business a single mother. BHGRE-GG stays at the top of the charts for listings taken, listings sold, total sales & total dollar volume.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plan is to continue to grow my Real Estate Business and eventually have my own brokerage. I also plan on growing my ZYIA business and meet new people along the way. I am working hard to build both businesses all while having fun and remaining true to myself. #closingsANDclothing is my new motto!

As a single mother, I have three boys that I am raising so I have a lot of work to do. I cherish each and every moment I have with them because in just a few short years, Kaden will be heading off to college and Kaleb and Kasen will be right behind him which gives me anxiety. I am constantly working on finding balance between work and all the things my boys have going on.
