Meet Brad Alexander of ALX Industries in South East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Alexander.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
With a background as a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician, I founded ALX with the intention of improving the way common NDT wastes are handled. I started out as an NDE Technician, then Quality Control Inspector and finally, worked my way up to becoming an NDE Manager over the course of seven years. During this time, I learned the gap in waste stream identification and proper management in the NDT industry.

Fast forward seven years, my business is regarded as the leading expert in the area of NDT waste management; recycling, disposal, and precious metals recovery. We proudly service more than 35 NDT companies with 130+ locations across 12 states and our reach continues to grow.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. Convincing people to manage their hazardous wastes properly has been a real challenge. We struggle with the overall know-how of proper waste management, not only within the NDT arena but also society as a whole.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the ALX Industries, LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
We provide waste consulting and waste management solutions in the United States. Our goal is to provide the most environmentally friendly and cost-effective waste management solutions to our clients. The majority of our clients are from the NDT industry. Our specialty is the refinement of silver from spent photographic chemicals and film generated by the nondestructive testing, medical and printing industries.

Over the last seven years, we are proud to have added additional waste management solutions to become a one-stop shop for our NDT clients. Initially, we were only managing wastes related to Radiographic Testing (RT) wastes and now we have the ability to transport and process universal wastes, electronic waste, lead recycling, various aerosols and paint-related wastes. And often times, we find ourselves leading the way in proper waste identification and management of wastes that have been landfilled for years. We don’t mind figuring out the proper channels and educating our clients accordingly and I am very proud of that!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I feel that my business is contributing to a shift in perspective that is very positive! With Houston being a global leader in oil and gas and somewhat behind in recycling; I feel like my business is ahead of the game in terms of having a sustainable future. I also feel that we will see big changes in our waste management programs – not only becoming more cost-effective but also easier to navigate, as we see an increase in like-minded individuals and businesses with the same end goal, sustainability.
