Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyss Mata.
Alyss, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I quit my job for a cosmetics company when I realized I was severely unhappy there and decided to try nails out. I was always super interested in the craft, I had a license in cosmetology that I wasn’t using anyway.
Started working under someone else for about 8-10 months moved to a traditional nail salon for about two months and when that didn’t work out, I moved into my own space inside of Downtown Studio Salon in Downtown Rosenberg.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve had tough days for sure the whole time I’ve been doing this and working at getting my llc. I’ve had to have 2-3 jobs including my nail business because building clientele is the challenging and most time-consuming part.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I offer Gelx nails as well as Polygel and Acrylic Dip. Gelx is a fully formed nail extension that fuses on to the nail using soft gel and then it can be customized with polish and design. They make for a perfect shape every time! I also focus on sanitation and cleanliness in my workspace.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe success is stability and quality work. Success for me would mean expansion, I want to grow and build a larger company that values every employee as well as every client that comes in.
