Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssia Aguilar.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a Houston-based Latina artist, content creator, and single mom creating under the brand “The Lofty Mom.” My journey honestly started from a place of survival, creativity, and wanting to build a better future for my daughters while staying true to who I am.
I’m largely self-taught, and over the years I’ve explored everything from illustration and live painting to digital design, fashion sketching, murals, and brand storytelling. Creativity became more than just art for me. It became healing, purpose, and a way to connect with people and community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. A huge part of my journey has been learning how to balance motherhood, grief, entrepreneurship, and personal growth all at once. I’ve experienced major life changes, including the loss of my son and the end of my marriage, and those moments deeply shaped both my perspective and my work. Instead of hiding those experiences, I’ve tried to create from them honestly and intentionally.
There were seasons where I was rebuilding emotionally while also trying to provide financially for my daughters and continue showing up creatively. Being a single mom while building a business can feel incredibly heavy at times because there’s no “off” switch. I’ve had to learn how to navigate uncertainty, burnout, self-doubt, financial pressure, and the challenge of wearing so many hats at once.
As a Latina creative, I’ve also had moments where I felt underestimated or like I had to work twice as hard to prove myself in certain spaces. A lot of my opportunities came from persistence, showing up consistently, and creating my own lane instead of waiting for permission.
At the same time, those struggles became the foundation of my work. They taught me resilience, empathy, and how important authentic storytelling is. I think that’s why so much of what I create now is rooted in connection, community, healing, and reminding people that even difficult chapters can still lead to something meaningful.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think what sets me apart most is my authenticity and willingness to create from real life experiences. I don’t try to present a perfect story. I create through motherhood, grief, healing, growth, and resilience, and I think people connect to that honesty. I also love blending art with community engagement and interactive experiences, making creativity feel approachable and meaningful instead of distant. At the end of the day, I want my work to encourage people to take chances, trust their path, and realize they’re capable of more than they think, even if they have to do it scared.
What are your plans for the future?
Right now, I’m really focused on continuing to grow “The Lofty Mom” into something that goes far beyond just being an art brand. I want it to become a platform that inspires people to create fearlessly, embrace their story, and realize that where they come from doesn’t limit where they can go.
I’m excited to continue expanding into larger scale murals, brand collaborations, live experiences, and community-focused projects that bring people together through creativity and storytelling. I love creating work that feels immersive and intentional, especially pieces tied to Houston culture, sports, family, and community engagement, so I definitely want to continue building in those spaces.
I’m also looking forward to growing more as a speaker, author, and creative mentor. Sharing my journey as a self-taught artist, single mom, and entrepreneur has become just as meaningful to me as the artwork itself. I want to continue creating books, content, and experiences that encourage people to pursue their goals even when they feel uncertain or unqualified.
Personally, a huge goal of mine is continuing to build stability and generational opportunity for my daughters while showing them what faith, resilience, and hard work can create over time. A lot of my future plans are rooted in legacy, not just success. I want to create meaningful work, open doors for others, and continue evolving without losing the authenticity and faith that got me here in the first place.
More than anything, I’m excited for the unknown. So much of my journey has come from simply being willing to take the next step before I had everything figured out, and I plan to keep doing exactly that.
