Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Ibarra.
Amanda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey started when I first got into makeup in the 8th grade. At the time, I didn’t have my own makeup, so I would use what my mom had. I’d stay up extremely late (including school nights) trying to practice and learn how to do makeup. This was only an at home thing I never went out with makeup on because I felt too embarrassed. It wasn’t until my first year in High School as a freshman. I wore concealer, blush, eyeliner, and mascara ONLY! It was terrifying, yet I still got so many compliments. I never wore eyelashes because I didn’t know how to apply them when I was only 15 years old but eventually I learned. Once I did, it was like my whole perspective on makeup had changed. Suddenly, makeup was 1000x better! That’s when I told myself one day I’d own my very own eyelash business. I was still in High School though, so I wasn’t pushing for it much. A year after I graduated was when I finally decided to actually follow my OWN dreams. I made my dream come true and now I own my own eyelash business that goes by “Sunflower Lashes”. We’re still slowly growing but I know one day we’ll get to the very top.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. It has actually been a very bumpy one. There are days when you feel so uninspired and like you want to give up, but you don’t give up because the love that you have for it all doesn’t let you give up. I’ve learned, though, that things will not always go how you want them too, and it all takes time and patience.
Please tell us about your business.
Our business sells 100% cruelty free strip eyelashes that are reusable up to 30 times. At the moment, we have four different styles, two of which are long and dramatic, and the other two, which are on the much more natural, subtle side with just a little bit of more volume. As a company, we’re most proud of how we’ve made other people feel in our lashes. Even though we are all already beautiful without the lashes, we believe that with them, it gives everyone that extra hint of confidence in themselves.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The thing I absolutely LOVE about our city is not only the beautiful view that Downtown Houston has but also the amount of diversity that is in this city. Everyone has the same type of love for this city, it’s like nothing that I’ve ever seen before. Houston is the BEST city; there’s nothing to dislike at all.
