Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Sapp.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got into the entertainment industry about four years ago after writing for Jamsource Magazine with Caroline Baker. From there, I began organizing concerts, and then later became a Project Manager for several festivals such as Groove Fest, Houston Zydeco Fest, Houston Food Fest, and Houston Reggae Fest just to name a few.
I started doing radio two years ago at 90.1 KPFT, then I went to 1480AM, to now The New Amazing 102.5 FM with The Amanda Sapp Show with Co-Host Marcus Bowers of She’s Happy Hair.
Fast forward to today, as a Radio Personality at The New Amazing 102.5 FM (Powered by Bread of Life);
I am the First African American Female Personality to headline a morning show (The Morning Grind) with an all-male cast (Comedian Grossmann, DJ Good Grief, and Theo Gervais) on an FM dial in the station’s 3-year existence.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Some challenges and obstacles I faced were trying to fit into the norm or certain circles that I thought I wanted to be in. I realized when I was starting out that I wasn’t proven. I had nothing physical or visual to support my claim that I could be a project manager or a personality. So, I stayed consistent until my work spoke for itself.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
As a personality at The New Amazing 102.5 FM, I am proud to work alongside talent that is just as amazing as I think I am.
I am known for bringing in guests that are doing powerful and impactful things in the community. I am known for bringing out the best of a story and the person that’s telling it.
What sets me apart from other media personalities is the intentions in showing interest in every individual I encounter.
Everybody has a story. I wanna be the person you tell it to.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck.
I believe in numbers, consistency, effort and most importantly, God.
These are all things that can be tracked and proven.
Faith without works is dead.
