Meet Amanda Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Taylor.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a stay at home mom for twelve years now. Amazing as it is I got to a.point where I wanted to do more. I would take care of the kids, school work, doctor’s visits and all the meal prep etc. Cooking from scratch each meal and baking for the family is something that gives me joy. Family and friends alike have both encouraged me to start a business doing just that. So when I mentioned wanting to do something more than stay at home with my beautiful children, they encouraged me again to start a bakery. My firstborn is diagnosed with autism and he is non-verbal. I have three other children at home and I wanted to be able to do something while still caring for them. So while flipping through the internet and Facebook, I found farmers’ markets and fun little events. That’s when the idea of Z’s Blue Light came to mind. We visit different festivals, markets, office buildings, take orders etc. Every dollar we take in helps someone with Autism. A way for us to give back and get our son involved in something as well. It also provides awareness to autism and inclusion.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been very fun and exciting. However, there are some setbacks or things you can’t control. A market may be very busy and you do very well or some can be not as busy and we lose money during that event. A thing that has stopped us from growing has been a food trailer. Due to us donating proceeds it really limits us on funds for any equipment needed to expand. i.e., a food trailer for our hot food business, Zypher’s Table.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I mentioned before, I have been a stay at home mom for many years now and I absolutely love it! I love being with my family and friends and now I have the flexibility to do just that. I can bake, cook and still be with the people I love while helping my children learn new things. They love learning how to cook and spending time with their mom in the kitchen.

How do you think about luck?
I’m not sure if you would call it luck or divine intervention. I do believe we all have a purpose and a gift. I was lucky to find mine and am blessed to use it every day. It makes me feel good to know people are enjoying our baked goods or our hot meals.
