Meet Amando Landa of Bold and Brave Tattoo Parlor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amando Landa.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m 21 years old, and I’m a Tattooer at Bold and Brave Tattoo Parlor. I’ve drawn for as long as I can remember, around the time I was 16 I discovered traditional tattoo imagery, and it inspired me to recreate those timeless designs. Something about a simple, bright, clean design intrigued me and made me determined to keep going in this art and eventually take on tattooing. I painted tattoo flash for a few years and started my apprenticeship under KC Baldwin when I was 19.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having comes easy, right? During my apprenticeship, I worked two jobs. In the morning I’d work at a sandblasting/painting yard and then work at the shop in the evening. I’d sweep and mop the floors, take out the trash, set up/breakdown my mentors station, and whatever the hell else my mentor would ask me to do. I did that for over a year before even touching a tattoo machine.

Tell us more about your work and what your specialize in or are inspired by.
I specialize in American traditional tattooing. I’m heavily influenced by New York style tattooing. Bold lines, simple color palette, and designs that can be recognized from across the street.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Having the opportunity to tattoo my clients and give them the tattoo they want always makes me proud.
