Meet Amber Bradford of Journey to Peace Counseling Services, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Bradford.

Amber, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Amber Bradford, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor. Looking back, there have been many chapters in my life that led me here. I’m a small-town girl at heart, but I’ve always had a big desire to help people in a meaningful and deeply personal way.

I started my journey by studying psychology in undergraduate school, and while working towards my master degree in counselor education, I also taught in my rural hometown. That experience helped me grow in understanding people early on; it helped me see how environment, support, and life experiences shape us from a young age.

After earning my master’s degree, I continued my career in education as a school counselor, which is a role I hold today. While serving in education for the past thirteen years, I’ve had a front row seat to human growth and development. I’ve watched how people grow, struggle, adapt, and carry those experiences into adulthood. That perspective has deeply shaped how I show up as a therapist.

Three years ago, I started building my private practice, Journey to Peace Counseling Services, PLLC. What started as a dream has evolved into something I’m incredibly passionate about. Being able to support people, not just in schools, but in a more personal setting has been a natural extension of the work I’ve always felt called to do. I have worked as a therapist part time, and I now it’s time to enter my next chapter professionally. I am excited to begin supporting clients in a full time capacity!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Not exactly. I believe anything meaningful comes with challenges, and entrepreneurship has definitely been a growing experience for me.

While I’m proud to be a small business owner, I’m also human. One of the more difficult parts of this journey has been navigating what it means to step away from education. As this role has been a part of my identity for over a decade. It’s more than a career change. It’s learning to release what’s familiar while trusting myself to step into something new. That hasn’t come without a few bumps and bruises a long the way!

I think many people can relate to letting go of one version of yourself while becoming another. It can feel empowering and uncertain at times, but often that’s where growth really begins. Both can exist at once.

This experience has also shaped how I show up as a therapist. It allows me to sit with my clients in those moments of transition with a deeper level of understanding. Whether you’re eagerly embracing change or simply trying to find steady ground in your circumstances, I can relate to the emotions that come with life adjustments.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Journey to Peace Counseling Services, PLLC?
My practice, Journey to Peace Counseling Services, PLLC, was created with the intention of providing a supportive space for those navigating life’s transitions and challenges. I work with clients who are often carrying a lot such as stress, depression, anxiety, identity shifts, or that quiet feeling of being stuck. Who are also looking for a space where they can slow down, feel heard, and begin to reconnect with themselves.

At the heart of my work are people who have a desire to live full lives; those stepping out on faith in their business, navigating changes in relationships, moving through parenthood, or evolving into a new version of themselves. Changes typically bring a variety of unwanted emotions such as self-doubt, fear, uncertainty and shame. Emotions that we work through instead of around. I am especially drawn to those in the in between space of who I was and who I am becoming; learning to enjoy being while also becoming.

While I work with both men and women, I do hold a special place in my heart for women. I believe there is something powerful about women supporting women, holding space for one another, encouraging growth, and reminding each other that we do not have to navigate both life changes and societal nonsense alone.

What sets my practice apart is the balance of professional training and genuine human connection. Therapy with me is not going to feel intimidating or stuffy. It is collaborative and real. I meet clients where they are, without judgment, and we work together at a pace that feels supportive and sustainable. I’m going to show up as my authentic self and so should my clients!

At the core of Journey to Peace is the belief that growth is not linear and becoming who you are meant to be often requires both courage and a place to untangle your fears without pressure. My goal is to walk alongside clients as they move through that process and in a space where they feel supported, understood, and empowered in their next chapter.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe the most important qualities to my success are patience, understanding, and connection.

Patience is something that has been shaped by my many many years of working with children in education. It has taught me how to slow down, listen closely, and meet people exactly where they are. Because of that experience, I am very comfortable giving clients the time they need without rushing their process. Everyone moves at their own pace. There’s no need to hurry or move quickly. Healing does not have a deadline.

Understanding plays a big role as well. Not just understanding textbook theory or behavior, but understanding the human experience. The fear, the uncertainty, and the courage it takes to make changes in your life. I have also had to live that myself, which has deepened my ability to relate to what clients are going through.

Connection is at the heart of everything I do. I believe healing happens in safe, authentic relationships where people feel seen and not alone in what they are going through. I show up as my real, unfiltered self in my work, flaws and all, and I love for my clients to do the same. Real connection happens when we are willing to be honest about who we are.
