Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Crake
Hi Amber, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Two things I remember very clearly about my childhood was my ability to sell items and my love of cooking. One summer while in elementary school My brother and I convinced our mom to buy a jar of crybaby bubblegum and we would sell them during summer school. It became a challenge to me and I knew one day I wanted to own my own business. My love for cooking while that didn’t always have the best out comes. Around the age of 6 served my mom, who was recovering from surgery a water down tomato sauce. thought I was making tomato soup. We still laugh about that today.
A lot has changed since then. As I reflect on all the individuals who have unknowingly played a role in getting me to where I am today. I am reminded of how God has blessed me and guided my steps. My mom was my first teacher and to this day I run every recipe by her. In middle school my friend’s mom owned a catering business. She taught me the importance of the small details, to be seen and not heard, and to enjoy what you do. Fast forwarding to my college years my brother suggested I attend the Hilton College at the University of Houston. I still wasn’t sold a career in the food industry was for me so I took a job as a landman in Wyoming then moving to West Texas. There I worked with some of the amazing folks from Louisiana. And most recently Mrs. Louis Neuhaus. I would spend hours chatting with her about recipes. She really encouraged me to take the leap and open a business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Self doubt has been my hardest obstacle to overcome. I knew I loved catering, food displays, event planning but was my work good in the eyes of others. During the pandemic I decided I was going to take a leap of faith a started a business selling candies enchilados. Farmers Markets and Online orders soon took over not only my week nights and weekends but those of my family. My mom and stepdad helped make candies and chamoys. My sister and eldest niece helped package and label. My brother, sister in law and my younger niece helped sell at markets. My dad would even have to bring my supplies from Mexico because stores in the area would be out of stock. As business grew we unexpectedly took a different direction. Our customers soon started requesting we cater their events. Many after seeing photos on Facebook of my family events. 2023 we decided it was time to revamp and in 2024 The Bar Company was born.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Bar Company specializes grazing tables and late night bites. whether you want to offer your guest a Ramen Cup or a Corn in a Cup (Elote) and everything in between. Our friendly staff is ready to serve you and your guest.
How do you define success?
Success for me is seeing my customer’s reaction at their events and knowing that we played a role in a memorable event.
