Meet Amber Ford of NailTrappinHTx in Downtown Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Ford.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amber. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Baytown, TX. I graduated from Robert E. Lee HS in 2007! Growing up, I had a rough childhood, my mom was a single mother of three sometimes six depending on if my cousins were staying with us or not! My dad has never really been in our lives on a consistent basis so we went through a lot as kids! I had a baby girl my Junior year of HS and most people didn’t expect me to graduate but I graduated with my HS diploma and training in Pharmaceuticals May of 2007.

My love for nails goes back as long as I can remember, my mom didn’t have an abundance of money to go shopping and splurge on us, but one place she let us go crazy in was the Dollar Store! I can remember getting the Press on KISS nails and gluing them on, and every time we would go I would get a different style! Fast forward to me being a young Woman I loved going to get my nails done, I was being serviced in the nail salons at least every other week! When I would go I would find myself watching every step they maneuvered, I was so enthralled every time I went, I was soon correcting them, or asking them for the file so I can fix it myself, which I know to them was completely disrespectful but to me this was my way of expressing myself and my nails had to be perfect! This also created a very expensive spending habit for me being a young mother I couldn’t afford it as often as I liked to go so I started getting the acrylic sets from WalGreens and began attempting to do my own nails.

I worked in Construction and also an exotic dancer for several years before my brother encouraged me to began my journey in the beauty industry! I started school at Franklin Beauty School and soon transferred to Regency Beauty Institute where I would graduate with a full Cosmetology License In February of 2015. I took my test to be a Licensed Cosmetologist a week later & passed! I then began working in my brothers salon, “Salon 1409” Located in Downtown Houston!

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not, but one thing about me is I don’t give up easily. If I start something I make it my business to finish it! Not long after I started working in the salon, I found out I was pregnant with my second daughter and soon after I got married. I had to take a break from my career which was extremely hard because I have an absolute passion for Nails and I literally had to put my career on Pause! Being a mother and a wife is a full-time job in itself, so you have to find the balance between being a Wife/Mom while solidifying career at the same time! I want to show my girls that you can be a great Mom and still be and Entrepreneur as well!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with NailTrappinHTx – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of our city! There are so many different cultures and people here in Houston! I don’t like the division that the beauty community has! I wish there were more events and ways for us to connect! I feel like there’s more than enough clients for everyone to go around! We should definitely support each other more!
