Meet Amber Gary of She’s So Blunt in West Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Gary.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amber. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’d like to believe that I have always had a creative spirit and even since I was a child, I knew exactly what it meant to feel inspired. In school, I would write stories for my classmates and pass my composition book around for them to read them – that’s how the writing began. I love how I can make words on a piece of paper come to life or how in every post, I sound completely and independently sound like my authentic myself.

When I relocated to Kansas City, MO as a college graduate, I felt lost and unsure of who I was or the direction I was going, which is something we all struggle with at some point. Writing helped me find my voice. It helped me discover who I was and what I stood for. So one day, I decided to start a blog and it blew me away because a few people actually read it. Then I started writing about things that definitely changed me as a person, made me grow and quite honestly, things that were hard to deal with. More people read that! Once I became vulnerable, raw and honest – I started attracting a bigger audience.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth? LOL! Is anything smooth these days? The biggest struggle for me has always been balancing my time and priorities. I blog because I am creative and I’d like to consider myself a modern-day storyteller, not because I’m looking to generate income or any of those things. With that being said, at times life becomes more of a priority for me, causing to be inconsistent with my content. The inconsistencies, of course, impact growing my following and drawing more readers to my site, etc. With a full-time job, finding a new home, planning a wedding, social obligations and trying to close my eyes for a moment of sleep, your days get pretty busy.

The other biggest obstacle I’ve always faced is criticism for the topics I write about and readers taking my personal opinions VERY personal. This has always been a challenge and in the past, I’ve deleted my entire website feeling overwhelmed and misunderstood. Now I have learned no matter what you write about, people will and are allowed to have opinions, the same way I express mine.

Please tell us about She’s So Blunt.
She’s So Blunt is a lifestyle blog for millennial women where blunt. Straight-forward and honest stories are shared. My blog is a true reflection of my life. I created this space for us to improve, learn and grow together through life challenges, successes, and experiences. There’s no way that you can improve the world until you’ve taken the time out to improve yourself. These are my thoughts, feelings, expressions, and desires all laid out in each and every post. The word blunt is a word a lot of people use to describe me, and I stand in it. I define being blunt as telling the truth when the truth doesn’t need sugar coating. You may not like it, but we all need it.

The one thing that sets me apart from other bloggers is my content. I’m not JUST a fashion blogger or JUST a beauty blogger. I write about stories that people can relate to. Stories that make you change or evolve your thought process. I want people to read my content and look back and say, “I achieved something because I read this” or “I was able to get through a tough situation reading her work”.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The answer to this question is normally nothing because I believe that even in times of bad decisions or not-so-well thought out decisions – you grow. You learn from mistakes you’ve made and they equip you to be better. However, if I could start over I would have stayed consistent since my first website launched in 2016. Since then, I have had three sites for various reasons. Some include times where I felt discouraged by negative feedback, some were times where I felt like I didn’t owe my vulnerability to others. But looking back I have realized I have a story to tell and it’s worth sharing. Even if I helped, influenced or encouraged one person, it’s worth it.
