Meet Amber Romo of Golden Hour Productions in San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Romo.

Amber, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Where to even start, so I had just started working at 54Th Street when I met my lovely friend Carisa… (not even realizing I grew up with her sister). She was the runner for Scoremore SA team and they were recruiting new street promoters, she invited me to one of the meetings at The White Rabbit in 2012 I believe. After that it was honestly just one thing after another, I started selling merch for artists who needed the help, my first artist was Future during The Honest tour… that’s really when I noticed okay I can’t do this, I couldn’t even see the show or the crowds reaction it was terrible for me lol. Well one day an artists manager had asked me for help with something in the green room, I ended up spending the whole night doing hospitality for them. Going home that night, I realized that was the most fun I had the whole time and I was going to do that every show.

Basically started the whole “artist hospo” for the team, crazy part is I was doing it for free. I worked my ass off though! Later on, I started going on Texas tour runs just to do hospitality. My first tour was with Trae Tha Truth and Lil Bibby, tour life was the most fun ever by the way! Scoremore then started doing festivals, JMBLYA was the first fest then eventually came the baby of every San Antonio Scoremore promoter – Mala Luna.

Trust me, everything was so very fun but I wanted more. I wanted to do more for the city and the artists in my city. It’s so many talented people here! The only way I knew how to do it was to take everything I had ever learned from my beautiful family at Scoremore and do it here. I started Graveyard Shift and thought okay I can do something with this, then stopped myself and said “why not be official” so I took my happyself downtown to the courthouse and became my own boss. What I forgot to realize though was that with every success story there are very many L’s to take on. Not only that, I’m a one man team who comes out of pocket for every show I do. It’s hard out here, but never the less I wouldn’t ever trade any of it for the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, I used to get yelled at all the time. Sascha is legitimately the only person in the world who scares me. He’s a great person to look up to, to work with and to be friends with. It felt terrible getting yelled at lol I held back a lot of tears. Knowing now it was all for good reason.

Definitely my hardest struggle to overcome was how outspoken I was and still am just not as bad. It took me forever to realize that I was one of the faces of a brand in Texas, Scoremore. And that everyone is going to see me and think of them. But! I learned the hard way. Lol

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Golden Hour Productions – what should we know?
Golden Hour Productions, well I would like to say I’m a Jack of All Trades.

I’ve helped people do their very first show, I’ve helped people by linking them with the right people, I’ve been an A&R and PR to a lot of people.

I’m most proud of how authentic it is, I mean sure there are a lot of promoters in the city but I truly want everyone to win. I want everyone to get the opportunity to showcase their work. The opportunity to become better. And I think that’s what sets me apart from others.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would have to say my personality and respect has taken me a long way through this all. Not only that networking for sure! I love talking and meet new people!
