From an early age, I’ve had an entrepreneurial state of mind and I’ve always been fascinated by the ideologies of capitalism and free-market economics. Born and raised in Iran, I came to this country at the ripe age of twenty in search of ‘The American Dream’.
Under the advisement of my parents, I began to pursue a college degree in Engineering in 2004. However, it didn’t take long to realize my true passion was in Business Management. In 2008, I graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
I am proud to say that not only am I a first-generation American, but I am also a first-generation college graduate. Family is everything to me which is why, after working a couple of mildly successful jobs right out of college, I ultimately formed a business partnership with my brother in early 2011. The same year that I became a U.S. Citizen, I became an equal business partner of a revolutionary concept; an all-inclusive wedding & special events venue that was – wait for it – affordable!
I became the sole business owner in 2013, and take great pride in saying that to date Pelazzio Reception Venue has successfully hosted over two thousand beautiful yet budget-friendly events, including weddings, quinceaneras, corporate events and many more.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to becoming a successful business owner is never a smooth one. There is no easy route towards successful entrepreneurship. It is a well-known fact that no matter how long you’ve been in business, you will continue to face your share of ongoing challenges. As a business owner, I am forced to make hundreds of decisions every single day, from small choices that may only have an impact on one small moment, too big decisions that may have an impact on the future of the entire company.
The important thing to remember is that all the risks and challenges you encounter when building a business, only make you stronger in the long haul. It is crucial that you maintain focus on your goals. Always look to the future and try not to dwell on past mistakes.
To quote one of this country’s leading industrialists and business tycoon, Henry Ford, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.” Keeping this in mind, I always advise keeping your eyes on the prize!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
While I’m sure there are many commonalities between today’s most successful entrepreneurs, I attribute the majority of my success to one particular character trait above all others: Persistence.
I once heard someone compare entrepreneurship to marriage; explaining that both are labors of love and both require a solid foundation of devotion and persistence to make them prosperous. As with any relationship, you are likely to experience your fair share of obstacles and setbacks but if you let persistence fuel your journey, you can – and will! – achieve great things in the end.
So, my biggest piece of advice to anyone out there thinking of starting their own business is this: no matter how many times you get knocked down, you must continue to get back up. Throughout history, all of the greatest concepts and inventions were unsuccessful in their efforts from their inception. Success was only achieved with the right attitude and corresponding actions following these failed efforts.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to what happens to you. Persistence is an omnipotent quality in an entrepreneur and without a doubt the key to my success.
