Meet Amina Mejdoubi: From homeless to Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amina Mejdoubi.

Hi Amina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am Amina Mejdoubi, an author, podcast host and social media creative. I started my journey as a writer in 2018 after a terrible marriage experience. I remember feeling that I had run out of tears and felt the need to start expressing myself differently. That is when writing flowed out of me. I wrote prose and poetry to help myself heal from all the trauma I had endured. I had no intention of sharing my writings, but I was encouraged by my close friends to do so. That is how I started building a community of loyal readers on Instagram. I am now a published author of two poetry books, my first one ” Dry Tears Wet InK” and my latest publication ” Summer Rain.” You can find them both on amazon.com

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am actually grateful for the challenges that life has thrown at me. Everything has made me the person I am today! I had to go through some challenges like homelessness, sexual abuse, and navigating newfound freedom in a new country at a young age. Homelessness was by far the most challenging experience I had to go through. After my divorce, I couch-surfed for a while and ended up living with a friend who kicked me out. I had nowhere to go but a shelter, and nothing had prepared me for that experience. I was cold, hungry, and depressed. But, fast forward to all these years, I own an apartment back home in Morocco, and I live in my dream apartment in Midtown, Houston. Most importantly, I am humbled by my journey and I hope that my story inspires people who are going through anything they don`t talk about.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Most people know me through my Instagram @a.m.i.n.a.m.e.j where I share my journey of life and on my podcast Unpacking with Meena. I try to share my experience on what helps me lead a positive and a ( Somewhat) balanced life from food to exercise and supplements that help me feel my best. In addition, I share my love for my first passion and that is Fashion.

I think the reason that my social media account continues to grow is thanks to my authenticity and relatability. I try to share an authentic experience that not only highlights the wonderful snippets of my life, but also my Ls. In an altered reality social media world, I know my followers continue to support me because I show up as my authentic self.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have been blessed with many mentors throughout my life who pushed me to reach beyond my fears. One of my biggest supporters is my father, Ahmed Mejdoubi, who has always encouraged me to go after what I want even if it means that I take the road less traveled. His belief in me has put a ( positive) pressure on me to exceed his expectation. I can honestly say that my father is very proud of the person I have become today. Shoutout to all the amazing fathers 🙂
